Mesmers already lack dps, if anet actually changes crit dmg we will loose some more dps. I am more a pve player and mesmers are already not really welcome in many dungeon groups cause of the lack of dps. If we loose some more then what will happen? Mesmers are mostly welcome because of the reflects which help a lot in certain situations ( lupi just fox example), but if this class gets even weaker in damage output, looking at the guardian changes imo mesmers wont be needed anywhere.
What are your opinions on this? Are mesmers going to be bad or good after this patch?

The crit reduction will affect everyone because it’s gear related, not restricted towards one profession. So yes, we will be viable for dungeons and groups as we have always been.
It also looks like condi-shatter builds will be more attractive, but it will probably be a build more adapted for WvW.

The only mesmer-specific nerfs are doubled CD on Dueling Adept Minor and no clone replacement with DE if you already have 3 clones out. The first one is a bit harsh, but not entirely unexpected. And if they must nerf DE, I this is at least a minor thing that only affects a few builds without breaking them entirely.

New GM traits mostly sound good, though we will have to see how it all plays out in reality…

I fail to understand why people still think this is occurring. It’s been what, 2 month since the devs decided not to do that change because everyone told them it was stupid?

I’ve not seen this by the devs, Pyro, could you be more specific to where it was said that this latter change will not go through? Personally for me it would be game breaking if it were to be removed as a melee mesmer.

No arguments here, it would be stupid. As it would break on kill effects entirely for pvp/wvw, but its consideration was solely on the purpose to make PU on kill builds less effective.

While an atypical build may not have seen any change to their play, it would have been a significant of enough a loss to the build I use that I’d have been forced me to shelve my Mesmer as she would be all but unplayable with out having to completely redo and remake how the character even plays. For some builds, that clone death while a minor add in for some, it is as much as part of the character builds as (*a) shatter is for shatter play and phantasm for phantasm builds.

I for one am extremely delighted that they reverted this change.

*Edit, really they edit the word “as” because it’s followed by another word that begins with S, their filter needs some work.

With the patch at april 15th the mesmer will highly increase in power, I guess the mesmer and the elementalist will be buffed the most with that patch.

  • reducing crit damage by approximately 20% hurts every class the same, however the total damage reduction of the mesmer is lower than the one of a warrior (trash). Where our dps decreases from 5000 (jsut an example) to 4500 (-500) the warriors will drop from 10000 to 9000 (-1000), however our utility remains the same. Just some stupid math, but still …
  • serval bugfixes allow new effective builds and this combined with the fact that you can retrait whenever you want makes us MUCH MUCH stronger. It’s a huge buff for our class. I’ll take the same example again. A warrior won’t get great benefits from retraiting. He will allways focus on max damage. A mesmer however will recive huge benefits from traiting between 10/30/0/30/0 for utility, 0/30/0/20/20 for max reflection and 30/30/0/0/10 for max damage. Sure there are even more combinations, but it’s about the same as for the staff ele: 30/0/0/30/10 for sup and 30/30/0/0/10 for damage.
  • the ultra strong mater trait with 3 sec distortion upon a killing blow makes us pretty strong in many places, i mean image dredge fractale huehue… I luv it <3

I think the mesmer gets the best buffs in next patch. 50% of them are bugfixes, like Illusion of Death → Illusion of Life etc But we will be soooo viable everywhere!

@Xyonon: I don’t know about you, but I can tell you right now that I’m never ever going to do a full trait reset in the middle of a run. Unless they implement templates, it’s simply not worth my time to try and fiddle with traits while running to the next fight. I already do that with my major traits, I’m not going to do full retraits.

not sure if u are serious about this. while we get bugfixes, other classes get buffs….we are still veilbots. the distortion on kill will not change anything for mesmers in wvw if u are not running with a winnig blob. if u are outnumbered in wvw, the trait is useless as it only triggers if u kill something, not when u actually need it.
powerbreak is the inly one im interested in and maybe the torment on shatter, but then again…i cant shatter in wvw without ip so a very limited build diversity right there.

im actually hoping we get something more than that as bugfixes doesnt mean anet actually worked on mesmer. it seems like they rather rushed it with the mesemer..

mesmer? ok fix bugs….erm gm traits? well the only one we actually have is torment on shatter and interrupt trai…ok just take the leftovers from other classes…ok cool.

anet has done nothing to help the group mesmers out there. they nerfed glamour and now we are stuck with a 1v1 only class in a game that has a wvw game mode.

so me personally. i am dissapointed with this patch and think its gonna put mesmers even more out of the meta if anet doesnt start to work on this class.

bugfixes doesn not = class improvements, they shouldnt even have been there for so long!

With what we know, it looks like mesmers will be worse off. Most of the changes favor tanky/condition builds, which is generally bad news for mesmers.

  • Announced mesmer changes include a nerf to vigor uptime and bug fixes
  • New mesmer GM traits appear worthless or outclassed by existing traits (except Triumphant Distortion for large-scale wvw mesmers)
  • Other classes’ new GM traits seem to favor conditions
  • Lyssa runes (most pvp mesmers use these) have been nerfed to only clear 5 conditions

People seem to be excited to try condi shatter, as well as a full lockdown build. They should both be fun to play, but probably won’t make mesmer any better off than it is now.
