WvW Chrono build feedback requested
That would kind of meet your demands. Are you truly going to be doing midline play? As a boonshare chrono, you often end up more solidly in the frontline.
The build I generally go with is sw/f + sw/sh. The focus is nice to have for dropping temporal curtain while the group is moving, and the yank strips a stack of stability or aegis at long range when engaging, which is nice. Greatsword theoretically does more damage…but realistically it’s pretty garbage. You basically just have the aoe on 3, and the rest of the skills are more or less non-functional in a group fight.
For traiting, you should be taking Medic’s Feedback, not persisting images. Persisting images is utterly worthless in WvW (well, it’s utterly worthless in every part of the game, not just WvW) and should essentially never be taken. Other than that, those are proper traits.
For utilities, consider taking mantra of concentration over calamity. Calamity does a bit of damage, which is nice for tagging, but mesmer damage is so garbage that it really just doesn’t matter at all. For a midline or frontline role, having that extra source of aoe stability can be really handy in a tougher engagement. For your heal, you should probably be taking the heal well. While mirror is nice when traited, the heal well is a strong aoe heal + condie cleanse. Drop it as you’re engaging in a fight to help your frontline sustain through the first push.
Sigils of concentration on your weapons are pretty much entirely a waste. Boonshare doesn’t use your boon duration, it simply copies the duration of the boons on you, so the sigils don’t have much of an effect and are rather expensive. Other better choices would be something like hydromancy, for the aoe damage and chill, or a stacking sigil. For the same reason, I’d recommend against taking commander’s gear and instead pick up knights, valks, or Pvt.
Thanks for the solid feedback!
I’d see myself on frontline as well. But also depends whether it’s open or closed raiding. In open raids i’d be more tempted to stay in midline while in closed raids i’d be happy to be up front, just hoping 2800 armor is enough, but think it should be?
The focus is actually a nice suggestion, it certainly comes with useful skills. Is scepter/focus alright? I might have to try myself though. But main thing for me is that I like to have a ranged option available. Staff comes with defensive utility skills and chaos armor/field but with high cd’s. The greatsword at least offers some lower cd and alright damage even if it’s not too great in group play. Besides, can always switch weapons depending on situation if I can.
The calamity utility I put there because why not at that moment. It’s the utility slot that I can switch around basically for whatever is needed. Can replace with your suggestion, but also with veil or portal.
I had the well heal at first in my build, but thinking about the field effect and that the mirror has such a low cd, made me go with mirror. Well can interfere with waterfields or anything else and even though it gives a nice heal + condi cleanse, I might like the more selfish option of mirrors due to low cooldown. But I still consider well heal though.
Also thanks on pointers on concentration sigils

2800 armor is enough provided you’re careful with positioning and usage of sh4/dodges. You’ll still melt in a nasty pile of wells, so be cognizant of that.

So the reason I go sw/sh sw/focus is because having blurred frenzy available at all times is extremely powerful. The scepter block is useless in WvW groups and neither GS nor staff have any defensive tools whatsoever in the context of a WvW group. While having some ranged damage is theoretically handy…it’s really not that useful. Let’s be honest here, you’re a mesmer. It doesn’t matter what weapon you equip, what build you use, or what traits you take, the damage you provide in a WvW group will be garbage. If ranged damage matters to you, play an ele, necro, or revenant. If melee damage matters to you, play a guardian, warrior, or revenant. You are barking up the wrong tree if you’re worried about the damage you deal.

Yeah, pretty much. I’ll swap concentration with veil/portal as well (usually portal, veil can go suck a big one).

You’re absolutely right that everyone will hate you for dropping a light field on the regroup. However, good knowledge of game mechanics will make this work just fine. There’s 2 ways of getting around this issue. First, you can drop the well in front of your melee group as you engage the fight. You’ll remove conditions + heal your allies as you pass by the well, giving you sustain for the first engagement. Since you don’t blast waters in the middle of a melee train, this doesn’t conflict with fields. The second way is noting that combo priority picks the oldest existing field. If an ele puts down a water field, it’s safe to put down a light field on top of it, provided the light field is totally covered by the water field. This is risky on small waters, but big waters are easily big enough to fit. This provides a nice package of bonus condition removal and healing on a regroup.
For utilities, I go Mimic, Blink & Signet.
I think dropping GS for Focus is fascinating.
