WvW Glamour
Bump because I can’t afford the rabid set to test this yet. Thank you
IMO, getting a rabid set is worthwhile – condi mesmers are fun to play, and the high toughness is nice. From what I’ve seen, though, glamour mesmers are going extinct. Confusion is nice as extra dmg, but glamour mesmers used to rely on it as a main source of dmg and pressure. That’s definitely not the case now.
Long story short, glamour isn’t the way to go.

Thanks for the response.

Issue is, for zerging there isn’t much outside that.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
The GS changes make it pretty decent for zerging actually. Target a player at the back of the zerg and you’ll usually hit a few along the way too. Add sigil of fire and zerker and it’s good damage. However, it’s quite clunky (targetting wvw is a nightmare) so it would have been nice to learn that glamour was doing decent damage (especially with the blind changes)
Another unecessary kick in the teeth today tho. Patience with anet wearing very thin…
I disagree that it isn’t viable. Check out Kylia’s Triforce build. It’s not the same damage or destructiveness that the original glamour was, but it serves quite well. Also Pyro has a glam support build he posted that is really good for group play as well. Check those out and see what you think. I’ve played both and like them both for different things, and kept armor sets for each to swap as I want.
Even before the confusion nerf, a typical glamour/blind/confusion build was only viable at zerg vs zerg. It was never good at 1vs1.
The glamour skills (Nullfield, Feedback) itself are still fine, just the confusion/blind traits are garbage now.

Huh, I have the exact opposite opinion. For example, I run a 0/20/30/20/0 interrupt build for zerging, works really well for me.
There are quite a few options for zerging that can work well if they suit your playstyle.
Still, back on the original topic, I know that better mesmers than me have made glamour builds since the confusion nerf – however, I’m still of the opinion that they’re pretty weak.

My point is that if you’re in a zerg, you should NEVER drop Feedback and Veil (swap to Portal for golem rushes). This means that 2 utilities out of 3 are locked, and in glamour.
(and if you’re not carring at very least Veil, you’re zerging wrong.)

I’ve tested condition glam verse zergs recently for a week and it is not worth it. It does not do enough damage (i used rabid) and confusion is not triggered enough. I suggest you stick with Knight’s gear. Beyond that I’ve had good success with prismatic builds in wvw and pvp.

Not trying to get in your face (okay, maybe a little, you’re coming across as a bit pretentious), but if you’re thinking that there’s only one way to play a mesmer in a zerg, you may want to surf these forums for some extra ideas, my friend. There are quite a few ways for a mesmer to be successful and useful to the group that don’t require a glamour setup (not to mention that glamour setups don’t do damage for squat anymore).
I run veil, but not feedback most of the time (veil, blink, and signet of inspiration are my normal choices), and I seem to do pretty well for myself in my guild group. Feedback doesn’t fit my style of play, and veil doesn’t get thrown in the enemy group – therefore, the glamour traits are useless to me. Add on the fact that confusion doesn’t hurt much anymore, and we can see why there are very few glamour mesmers, at least among my server and the ones I’ve faced.

Add Nullfield to that list.
It’s great to remove boons from the enemy zerg (especially losing stability hurts when they rush through a choke point with a combination of Nullfield and guardian blocking walls).
So we are supposed to zerg with 3 glamour utilities and nothing else?
Well, let me add some comments …
- glamour utils are our only AoE utils, that’s the simple reason why they are the best ones for zerging (especially since we have almost no other AoE skills)
- every glamour skill except Feedback is pure support. You don’t get loot bags from Veil, Nullfield or Portal.
- the glamour TRAITS for blind/confusion are worthless garbage right now, so even if a mesmer runs around with a utility bar full of glamor skills, he doesn’t run a glamour build.
yeah a big part of me having fun and playing wvw died with the confusion overnerf. every time i see those ridiculous low numbers from confusion ticking, i wanna ragequit. i get hit with freaking 10 stacks of bleeding and bleed to death. confusion doesn’t last as long, doesn’t stack well anymore, doesn’t do dmg and is just painful to watch with my 1700 condition dmg.
it seems like anet is trying to force me into a dps build for wvw. they not only destroyed a build, they stepped and kicked condition mesmers when we were already down.
we need new ways to apply conditions, not random stuff that maybe applies 1 condition at random, not torment that only triggers 25 percent of the time.
looks like anet only balances for spvp and doesn’t wanna spend time for wvw balancing! people cry about confusion, so anet destroyed it. people cry way more over other things for other classes, anet ignores it or even buffs it.
i am still using rabid gear and trying to make it work with the current build. i hate having to work so darn hard to make a condition build work.
ugh, shutting up now, getting mad again….
