Guild Wars 2

I generally run mesmer in my guild’s WvW zergs for portals, veils, focus pulls, and the like. However, while I feel comfortable with my specific roles, I’m not really sure what I should be doing in between the portal bombs and veil rushes against other zergs. What would be a good playstyle against small/large zergs? At the moment I am running Sw/F and GS, and when I’m not using the focus for pulls I try to just take down individual players. This seems inefficient and not entirely helpful to my own zerg though.

Basically my question is, as a mesmer, what is my role during the fight (after portal bombs or veil rushes)?

Single target burst DPS.

Try to pick off the enemy back line, particularly Ele’s.

As a long standing Mesmer main I prefer to run Zerk Staff Mesmer

Only half joking. The reality is that staff ele outperforms anything non-chrono mesmer can do by generous factors of 10. The difference is simply night and day. Mesmer can do a little, but 90% of the time you’re mostly useless, and staff ele is just monstrously powerful.

Well to be honest is IS more commonly known as Zerk Staff Ele, but since I’m a mesmer main the name still fits [shrug]

If you have a focus party, then go for max single target damage with few disengages and focus enemy backliners while flanking. Leave the AoE stuff to classes that do it well.

You’re much better suited for pressuring enemy Eles and the like (or even cheeky stealth stomps with distortion up)
