i am hardly to see competitive mesmer pov zerg videos..

I would like to see videos as

• GvG [as obsidan sanctrum]
• Zerg (as 20+ or 25+) [Large Scaled]
• Organized [Raids or GvG]
• non-Pugs groups [sync ed] as not random partying, sync with other classes either with roled in group composition.
• can be offical videos (as edited)
• can be unoffical videos (as twitch live records)

if u have or pls help me to find as above propertied videos.. ty..

I would love to see this as well! I’m having an increasingly difficult time sticking to my mesmer due to our weak performance in large-scale WvW. :-/ I think I swap builds every few days hoping to find something that will let me support my team, kill my enemies, and get me a few bags.

Don’t know of any other Mesmer steamers/vid posters in top tier (as in recognised ability not matchup tier) EU guilds, its dull gameplay in zerg fights tbh, GvG would be more fun to watch but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a GvG from a Mesmer PoV.

In terms of GvG most Mesmer’s seem to run GS and Sw/Focus and then play periphery wars while using Null Field on cooldown but in general good mesmer raid footage is as rare as hens’ teeth, it doesn’t seem to make entertaining copy.

If you want to get enthused about Mesmer usage in organised groups you’ll have to look at much smaller scale fighting. [EscG] on Augury Rock and ~tM~ (now know why you use the tildas) in the USA use Mesmers extensively in smaller scale fights with emphasis on totally different aspects of our gameplay, boon sharing/utility/mobility and burst damage respectively.

Trouble is the demands are very high for recording while playing in large combative situations. So I tend to just flag recording all together.

@kelthien.. yess.. hope there ll be hand to mesmers for large organized groups.. when i play other classes it shows.. lower risk same/higher reward.. its not fair anyway still doesnt have offical gvg in Guild Wars 2 so ofc game mechanic is via structured pvp system and balances as well.. still wvw or unoffical gvg doest accepted as competitive mode in gw2.. anyway..

@Jim yeap doiid as well core player of large scaled organized group play.. he is as well rare ppl who has not abondan game yet..

Here are three videos of my mesmer fighting zergs. Our commander makes frequent use of mesmers, which makes it fun (and keeps us on our toes!). Some of the fights are against organized groups, but most of them are against a mix of a small guild with a commander+pugs, which is the majority of what we find to fight.

One night of fighting that really highlights the impact mesmers can have on a fight, and it was probably one of the most fun nights of “mesmering” I’ve had. This was originally made internally for my guild, so the audio is TS and game sounds, and there is a bit of swearing. There is less chatter when we have to be more serious, but we still communicate important skill uses regularly. I think we had 30+ on this night, which is a big number for us, but it was about 20 of us and 10 of a friendly guild named EK who we wanted to raid with one more time before they transferred to another server (CD).

Another video with some various sized fights. I am on my warrior for the 1st 15ish seconds of this, but the rest is on my mesmer other than a very short clip in the middle on my guardian (but even then you can see the importance of mesmer skills used by our other players).
Our commander makes frequent use of mesmers and we usually run with at least 2-4. We have different builds depending on the role of the mesmer. As one of our portal mesmer in a zergy tier, I am built pretty tanky. We have other builds for mesmers in other roles (etheral fields, feedback, etc), but we always run with at least 2 portal mesmers.

Aother video with some good fights against zergs. The 1st 1:30ish is on my guardian, and I am on my mesmer for the rest of the video after that. Like the previous video, even in the guardian footage the importance of mesmer utility skills in our group is visible.

My guild tries to run guild only groups (usually ranging in size from 15-25), but we sometimes pick up followers as we put up swords on the map. We also sometimes coordinate with a map commander if needed to bust an 80+ man map blob.

I know I am not the best mesmer out there, but I have fun with it. I make mistakes (like the heal at awesome heal at ~11:20 of the 1st video), but I try not to make the same one twice…or at least too often.

That’s sort of the point. I don’t record so I don’t have to deal with the major fps drops. But for the occasion, or for a particular clip of something, I can deal with it for a few minutes.

Hmyeah… I would like to add to that, that I don’t raid anymore. I’ve had enough of it pretty much. It’s getting me bored, no interesting fights and too much random kitten.
I’m only still in a guild for GvG. The rest of the time I’ll be roaming pretty much.

Sorry but spamming 1 on greatsword is not the ‘’true value’’ of a mesmer in raids. 1 shatter deals more damage than 20 seconds of spamming 1 greatsword and also removes boons from enemys + immobilizes & pulls.
Theres not much interesting to see with mesmer anyway these days. It’s in a really, really poor state. It’s that we have veil else we would be nearly useless in raids against big blobs.

Sorry I didn’t make it clear. By “true value” I was describing the versatile use of Portal, especially in the first video of Aurika. The other two however does not really appeal to me though, regarding the quality of JQ PuGs in EB.

Of course the term could be much exaggerated, but regarding the poor state of the Mesmer class as you’ve also mentioned in the latest post, the application of something unique to this class other than veil should be appreciated, at least in my opinion.

And for the weapon skill part, I personally wouldn’t even be using GS under most of the circumstances in the video, but that’s just my approach/build. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t affect much on how I value the overall work.

Btw is there something wrong with twitch? :\ I really want to check out your channel but the stream’s been so laggy in the past few days.

yep true. the countless nerfs have put us down to the bottom of the foodchain in wvw raids.Ansau’s video shows the job i do in my guild. veil, tw, veil, tw,veil, bf,veil,bf and then try to stay alive for more veil and tw…..the only reason mes was good in wvw raids for some time, was due to glamour builds that allowed us to use a non ai heavy build. it was an aoe build that worked well vs large blobs, but since the nerf, mesmers havent gotten anything new they could use as an aoe instead.

sure shatters are not bad, but then again u would have to go pretty glassy if u want to deal good dmg which= rallybot if u are facing blobs that outnumber u in mid- high tiers. i am in na t2 atm and the blobs are pretty big, with tanky warriors, perma cc, glass staff eles, glass power necro, a few condi necros, tanky guardians and then the glass heavies that help ganking backlines with a ton of thieves that pull u all over the place.
now staff eles can go glass as they do have a really long range and a lot of aoe skills. mes has to dive into the zerg or sit on the backline using tw a berserker every 20 secand otherwise spam aa gs and maybe go blurred frenzy.
i think i run exactly the same build and weapon set as ansau and yeah i gotta say the veilbot duty is starting to get old.
we need non ai aoe builds again and also more build options for large raids.
i mean even in pve i go frming with my lowbie war and my necro as my mes simply doesnt get enough tags and also the cooldowns on phantasms get in the way as i often wast a berserker on an enemy that gets zerged down in seconds.
we need aoe as a light armor class and not more 1v1 single target stuff…and no mantras are not the answer! how about reworking those mantras and turn them into ground target aoe fields like chaosstorm. no clones required, no phantasms required, no ip trait required…i mean real,light armor class like aoe.

Ah right, ye in therms of using the portal I guess you can see some good uses. What I mostly like is the speed you can travel up hills with blinks and get into towers before they flip and then portal everyone in. Though this is not really of any use in-combat. That’s what I’m getting annoyed about, is that almost everything we’re good at in raids is before or after combat.

Idk about twitch, haven’t been streaming for about 2-3 weeks cause of being hacked and busy with school. I’ll stream tonight again with raid.

Simply to be a veilbot is the least favored.

I believe the dev would find it difficult to figure out a method to create/modify AoE skills other than the AI-dependent shatter skills since it could affect to much under PvP circumstances, which is better recognized by ANet.

However, AoE-wise or no, we do need some buff for ZvZ. As BlackDevil mentioned:

This is what makes the mesmer class wishy-washy in ZvZ. The uniqueness of mesmer is too much about the logistics, which is, for an organized group, something good-to-have rather than must-have, and often the least of the concern of the pin other than conducting a golem rush.

And by the way, this is also where Aurika’s approach really shines, putting the logistic ability into group combat maneuver, which can only be done in a well organized group and under good communication.

However I still consider the mesmer class in great need of a ZvZ combat wise buff.

To me, it feels like it’s very hard to fix mesmer for ZvZ.

The illusion mechanic simply doesn’t work in big groups (illusions are too fragile to function properly in a zerg environment) and we have very limited access to ground-targeted AoE, that instead is the main source damage for necros, eles and engis (and maybe we can consider warrior’s hammer stun also).

The nerf to glamour/confusion builds rendered them useless and perplexity runes have been “fixed” too, so we don’t have any other condition option for large scale fights (not that interrupt/confusion builds have ever been a serious option).

About the lockdown builds: those are too much RNG/luck based (chaos storm, procs on interrupts) to be of use: statistically speaking, you will probably cause a degree of annoyance to “someone”, but you can’t choose exactly who or when.

Mantras have been buffed, true, but the 240 radius for concentration/resolve, while it may be ok for sPVP, it’s way too short for WvW. Mantra of pain may be useful in conjunction with restorative mantras, but the long cast time make it (and all mantras in general) a big liability for the mesmer. Mantra of distraction is still single target, so it’s not really an option for a ZvZ-oriented build. Mantra of recovery is nice and works very well in conjunction with mender’s purity, but again the long cast time make it very hard to use in a zerg.

The signet heal is useless due to the fragility of our illusions.

At the moment, the only builds I can somewhat make to work are:

• shatter, played in a very “dirty” way, using one or two clones with illusionary persona and a very tanky build.
• interrupts with 30 in domination and 30 in chaos, played with double sword and staff: somewhat annoying, but the (AoE) damage is low
• hybrid phantasm/shatter for killing backliners: meant for fightning organized groups, but I need to drop all the utilities (null field, veil, portal) since I need the slots for blink, decoy and mantra of resolve. It’s pretty much useless against normal zergs.

Our beloved class, so focused on finesse and perfection of execution, struggles with fights where finesse is cast apart to leave place to brutal bloodshed. I think fixing this requires a major rework and/or maybe some new weapon options (hammer!? short/longbow? a main hand pistol with ricocheting autoattacks?).

For the moment I’m looking forward to the changes to runes/sigils and the fixes (portal range!!) to the current crippling bugs. We’ll see what the future brings…

yeah im glad some of the most annoying bugs are being adressed. its just pretty sad that mes used to shine once with glamours. the bb trait didnt need to happen like this, i mean thieves still spam blind and ours didnt last long. if glamour was back to normal dmg and unnerfed it wouldnt even be this strong anymore as now everyone brings condi cleanses with them.
eles trait for it, warrior shout diamond skin and all that… glamour was only op because people never watched their condis. now they do. so we need something strong again. something like glamours was.
or give us at least a few trait options that arent based on clones and illusions to be alive. i mean in a game im beta testing, i get an option everythime i upgrade a skill, so i can spec my pet i have for example to either deal more dmg or to explode and deal aoe dmg when killed. after that i can spec it into doing a short aoe stun, etc… or changing a single targeting skill to a multitarget skill, etc u know just sooooomething.

since glam was taken away from us like this, we got absolutely nothing back and with the glamour build went our viability in zvz.

im all for a rework…seriously gw1 mes would do 100 times better in zvz then what we got here…. a so called light armor class, that is a duelist 1v1 thiefwannabe class, with no aoe and pets….there is a mess up right there!

i dont mind the spvp mes, but then again, theif, easier to play and u dont even need to use this many buttons….
