clone rezzed by others, Im left to die.
It has pros and cons, definitely. The idea is that you make the clone and the enemy will go focus on that instead, giving you time to heal yourself or confuse him to death and get a second wind. The best thing you can do if you get downed in a group scenario is to say something like “ATTENTION: I AM THE REAL DUMBLENUTS, PLZ RAISE ME.” which will put a little chat box above your head and hopefully draw people to you, and not your dastardly evil twin.
If it makes you feel any better, we do really good damage when we’re about to die between our confuse bolt (where the hell is that ability when I’m alive, by the way? I would use the hell out of it.) and phantasmal rogue guy.

There are no pros, only cons.

That’s why I like staying downed for an entire HotW explorer 2 path end boss!
>:P
50% more dps that trident and you can’t melee that guy.
Yeah that’s happened to me several times where I create an illusion in downed state, and OH NICE someone to the rescue to revive me. Only problem is they went for the clone.
I get better than that! I get ressurected with other people downed by me. I try to raise them and I end up ressurecting my clone! I need to click on them or move away to stop picking my downed clone.
The clone move is one of the most useless downed skills in the game.
It confuses friends more than enemies, enemy players will pretty much always know which one is real, but friendly players are always reviving the fake one, it’s extremely annoying.

I am relatively new as a mesmer (level 50+ish) and this appears to me to be a horrible complaint.
We use clones to confuse folks as a nature of our class mechanic. Seems kind of short sighted to sit here and complain that it confuses folks.
Those who don’t – teach them, guys. As you all know, clone has green name, actual mesmer has blue.
Lol, I’ve been rezed then the guy who got me up rezed my clone. Maybe he wasn’t sure if he got me up yet or not shrug
A downed Mesmer has a big red arrow above their head to enemies. To allies, your revive symbol is a light, almost white blue, as opposed to a white colour.
That, combined with the terrible range (many times you don’t even teleport out of range of the person who was stomping you in the first place), and the obvious de-stealth (already brought up ITT how the clone appears first), make this skill terrible.
I liked it better before those dastardly thieves stole our downed teleport back after BWE2 (back in the second beta weekend, we Mesmers had the thief downed teleport, and they had a hugely buffed version of our current teleport minus the clone).
This is the same problem that we were having with Ranger pets being rez-able. It would also be nice to not have a huge red arrow pointing out, “HEY GUESS WHAT THIS IS THE REAL ONE!”
Not to mention that our downed teleport is random, and more often than not lands me in a much more horrible place than I originally fell, but the range on it is so small!
Sure I disappeared, but you only have to wait a second and I’ll be right back in front of you, no need to go looking! I won’t go but a few feet away!

It’s not supposed to be an end-all-be-all solution. Neither are many of the other downed defensive abilities. See: Mistform. Or Pet-Rezz. I’d argue Rangers and Elementalists have it much worse than us, ours is at least quite reliable in 5v5++ fights since enemies have some issues tracking who is who in the mess and end up finishing the wrong one (just act like a clone, don’t rezz, nuke, then let a teammate rezz you).

Exactly. It’s something to use if you’re about to be stomped to buy more time to try to get a revive. It makes you a little less helpless but you’re still nearly dead.
may i suggest…when a team mate either rez/heal a clone it will affect the plyr.i think it will help…
There is a function of the downed state where I spawn an additional downed clone. This clone can be picked up by other players to no positive result. All it does is distract my teammates attentions and keeps me more dead! the Deadest! the Mostest Dead of all!
I wonder if there is an advantage to this function that I am missing, or if I should start putting my voice in these forums to have this functionality changed.
How do others feel about this issue?
My daughter and I, during the big event yesterday, tried to raise a clone for a few seconds. I find them annoying on one hand.
Yet, ultimately, I kind of agree with it. If your downed state misdirects mobs, it should misdirect everyone. It makes a boat-load of sense.

Yeah, this is how I have felt it should work since I first created my GW2 mesmer. If a clone is being revived, it should be your health bar that rises. Or, more succinctly, all attempts to res a mesmer or her clones should affect the actual player character only.

The problem is, the misdirection is mainly affecting your allies when using this skill, as the enemies players get a great big red arrow over the real Mesmer’s head… while the Mesmer’s allies get a faint blue colour that barely distinguishes the revive symbol over the real Mesmer and their downed clone.
Also, having your allies fall victim to your own attacks and strategies, while fun for a time, grow old fast. Just imagine if the Guardian’s downed2 knock back effected allies as well as enemies.
Easiest fix would be to take the option away to rezz downed mesmer clone.

I think you could use it even after the enemy has already begun winding up the kill animation. I think I have done it before a few times.
If you can stack up the backstabby Rogue with the clone, then power to you. It can really turn a team fight around.
I laugh every time that happened

That people should always know (because of the arrow) is true in theory, not in reality. Many times in PvP I see players going for the wrong clone. I assume the point of the delay in PvE is to ensure your clone receives the aggro, the mechanic as a whole is of course useful for delaying death the same way that interrupts and thief/ele downed teleports are.
If you’re trying to get a res in PvE or WvW, just use /say chat to tell them they’re saving the wrong clone.

Then your team mates should be able to do the same yes? So your point is moot.
The reason most people in pvp go for the clone instead of the person is very simple: Most people in pvp are very stupid. Anyone who goes for the clone instead of the person immediately gives themself away as an idiot, because the real mesmer has a BIG RED ARROW over their head. Additionaly, as was mentioned, the destealth happens a second later, athough when I use the downed skill, I immediately start spamming my 1 so that the destealth lag is as small as possible.
Allies are also stupid most of the time. The real mesmer has a blue logo, the clone a grey/white logo. Simple and straightforward.
In conclusion, the only thing wrong with our downed state is the big red kill arrow, since clones are supposed to be actually identical. As far as allies go, the problem is not with the downed state, the problem is with your allies. When I go into a pug group, the first thing I do is tell them how to revive a mesmer, because I always assume that they are entirely clueless, and usually I am correct.
I don’t know about you guys, but i found it hilarious during the southsun events when i was revived, and about 15 people were gathered around my downed clone, only to have 2 veteran karkas kill them all!
The only thing that actually needs to be changed is to have them immediately disappear after you get up. is it that hard?
they removed the ability to rez pets for this exact reason. it took too long, wasn’t useful, and (via the F key) took priority over rezzing players or looting. the thing about the clones is that they stay active long after you get up and even if the clone disappears you can still rez the thin air. it may not be that difficult to tell which is the real one to rez, but that split second deciding the right one, clicking on them, making sure you’re far enough away from the clone to activate the right one, makes enough of a difference that it should be fixed.
I love creating a clone when they’re about to finish me. It’s so frustrating for them. Hahaha.
Except their is a giant red arrow above the real you…
