dh how to [PVP]
I would say: try to avoid DH as much as you can. If you have enough confidence in your skill then you could try to go 1v1 against them but don’t expect to actually beat them unless they are poorly skilled. At the very least, you could try to contest a node and impede their own rotations within the map. Generally speaking I would only target a DH if I am +1ing a teamfight
Condi chrono wins that fight. They’ll run out of clears fast since they are mostly bulk clears not small consistent removal. Takes about 20s pressure but then they drop.
Overall, DH is condition chrono’s biggest counter. So it is usually the 1v1 you want to avoid.
When you stay on staff against LB, you need to LoS a lot, which means you have to give up cap. Never use shield block before DH uses either LB3 or spear of justice. They both can interrupt your block. If you ever get tethered by spear of justice, be ready to use your distortion. Do not teleport through test of faith with sword 3 or blink, it will do massive damage to you.
Your best chance to do damage is in melee range. But you need to be super careful not burst onto his block skills. Patiently wait out the blocks. When DH goes elite invul, it is your best time to heal. He is locked into that animation.
is it not easier with scepter ?
is it not easier with scepter ?
I don’t think so. Both scepter 2 and 3 can be easily interrupted.
Sword 3 means you can go toe to toe against DH when he teleports on top of you and burst you with sword2 and focus5. With scepter, you have to time dodge well when DH goes melee.
Killshot Mesmer
8 seconds of unblockables with some solid weapon rotations and bursts either side puts them on their kitten real quick.
Anything with clones, condi’s, phants, or GS burst is just going to be a headache.
Just out rotate them and use your portal plays. You will beat the bad DH’s if you are really good on mesmer, but general rule of thumb is avoid.
DH’s strength is unorganized teams and players who can’t properly rotate. That gets strengthened when they stack em.
They are weak to proper rotations that exploit their mobility and properly timed bursts once their CD’s are down or happen so fast and hard they can’t react.

Which makes them pretty vulnerable to a +1 by a mesmer. Just don’t try and get the jump on one alone unless you’re extremely confident about taking them out.

Wait, is there actually some profession you shouldn’t avoid as mesmer?

For meta condition chrono:
You absolutely should take on necro and revenant in a 1v1 as a mesmer. Those two professions are immensely strong in team fights but got completely shut down by a mesmer in 1v1(except for some weird tanky necro build).
You should also learn to 1v1 druid, scrapper and tempest. They are super tanky but with moa, you can take them down 1v1 if you time your burst well.
However, meta condition build kinda sucks in a 2v2. You simply don’t have enough burst to put on enough pressure.

Druid, scrapper, and tempest are usually not worth the time to 1v1. Possible to 1v1? Yes, bu it’ll take ages. You’ll probably get +1d and killed by the time you’re finished with it.

No there isn’t because mesmer is a class that will let you take it as far as your personal skill goes.
You should destroy revs, necros, and META thieves. You can beat the rest based on your skill level and the ONLY class you really are countered pretty strongly by is DH. Now I’m FAR from the best mesmer in the game, and I lose to just about every class at times. Those are b/c I lost them, and never b/c the game lost them.
Clear it up for ya?
Know your limits, if you can’t beat a player in a fight be where they aren’t. You may find you can beat every other player on the enemy team instead so just go do that. It will get harder when you go against people who know how to rotate as the DH will try to be a thorn in your side but you should be able to avoid fighting it.
Other than that, get some friends and duel them on classes you have trouble against. Learn your limits and when you need to leave because you only have X cool downs left to make sure you aren’t getting +1.

Yea, it is vey situataional. So I was saying learning the 1v1 matchup against those professions is still beneficial but not a must-take fight like against rev or necro.
A lot of times, sustaining a 1v1 against a support-heavy class like tempest is already good for the team. I am pretty sure no tempest likes to isolated into a duel.
Being +1’d is also something I really think many ppl, as well as myself, can improve on. Mesmer is a pretty strong profession in terms of surviving +1. Especially considering we have portal, being +1’d actually gives us chance to turn tide of the battle.
Thank you everyone for the answers, those really shed some light on my issues, even if I didn’t ask anything specific. I really like mesmer, I feel almost immortal in PvE and in PvP I die around 2 seconds on everything but very, very bad players. Big purple bubble of “do not attack” is kinda big indicator that mesmer is about to get killed soon. At this point I pretty much admit that mesmer is hard, I suck at it big time and I probably should sit down for couple of hours and read again all the specialisation traits, there are so much of “when you do this then this will happen why this also happens” embedded to them.
I take the condi build is chronophantasma in metabattle? I’m running with that and so far I feel that my damage is real lackluster. Even if I spend whole game in fight shattering my buttocks out I rarely can break 200k. I don’t run it with sword though, I did at start, but it got me killed enough so I just switched over to scepter and decided to avoid melee at any costs.
