You have to put a lot of effort in with the Mesmer too. I don’t think there’s any ezmode magic user in the game.

I suppose green butterflies with black wingtips would be okay as long as they’re iridescent.

Better how, and at what?
Everything mesmers do requires effort. We have some very effective utility for groups, but not much aoe damage (→not good at most dynamic events). We have acceptable single target damage, but it takes a while to get going. We have good survivability, but its all active defense rather than passive. We’re pretty strong in small pvp encounters but don’t scale as well in larger fights (we’re highly vulnerable to aoe damage as well).

At the current state, Mesmers are stronger than Elementalists, yes. Both require effort, but the Mesmer actually rewards you for that effort. Also, Mesmer’s traits, elites, underwater and downed state are overall much better than the elementalist’s.
According to all the Necros and Elementalists crying on the forums, Mesmer takes zero skill to play and they lose to every Mesmer they face. Don’t play a Mesmer, youll hate it and you’ll only have to press 1 button and you’ll insta win. It’s true ask any of the sobbing masses of Nec/ele players that feel they should be the premier caster class in the game.
Don’t play Necro now, their bug list is so long its attrocious.
Elementalist got nerfed badly in the last beta weekend, which makes the amount of work u need to put in not very rewarding.
Mesmers are rewarded nicely for effort and u can really see ur class getting stronger.
Super easy to perform well in PvP.
Struggles to keep up in PvE, unless you’re in a dungeon, at which point you’ll fall asleep at the keyboard.
Necromancers might have bugs, and they may sometimes be boring, but there’s no denying that they’re effective at what they do.
Elementalists are pretty good if they didn’t cut their damage in half over the BWEs.
