Hey all,

I’ve been playing mesmer on and off for a while now – I’ve taken a liking to the scepter and the way it does its condi’s

As our condi based weapon – torment has its uses but it needs something else to it

Ineptitude has some synergy with scepter due to the way our #2 works but on a CD

As of current – IMO we don’t have enough access to high confusion stacks like a ele can have burn stack of 10-15+

Sided with the 15% attack speed increase (and the bug fix where this applies to AA) and the 20% CD

All attacks should give 1 stack of confusion lasting 1.5-2 seconds
this would give additional condi pressure + cement the fact it is mostly a mesmer specific condition

ie. with every attack you apply a stack of torment, you also apply a stack on confusion
with ether counter/counter spell you apply confusion

with confusing image – you now apply 12 stacks instead of 6 stacks of confusion

thoughts?

thank you for reading,

-Phyrak

I like 2 and 3, it’s mostly the AA which destroy all the feeling. It is slow, weak and the generated clone are awful. The AA should apply more conditions so that the scepter clones become more useful + there need to be a way not to generate clone from the AA. Currently, the AA is too slow for the extra clone to really be useful in shatter builds and at the same time punishes phantasm build, so removing it altogether would probably be a good thing. But if one decides to keep this, there should not be any new clone if we already have 3 illusions. Since clone death builds do not exist anymore, I don’t see who would oppose that.

Ah, modern players discussing why torment applying AA is underpowered.

Maybe if the attack speed increase on MS wasn’t bugged and actually worked… They should fix the bug and increase the attack speed by 20%.

The slowness of the AA is the only issue, the clone on third attack is nice. Nobody is running a phantasm build camping three phants and going AA on scepter… or if they are they shouldn’t be.

Scepter is a solid weapon now, just fix the attack speed bug and it will be great.

Or they could just bring back clone death, like they were planning to.

We really can’t judge Malicious Sorcery until we get a working version of it. Base on the wording of the trait, the attack speed increase could apply to ALL of our abilities while wielding a scepter… which is pretty strong (looking at you mantras!).

“Increases attack speed while wielding a scepter. Reduces recharge on scepter skills”

Doesn’t stipulate that it only applies to scepter attacks, so its a good possibility. They’ve been pretty good about wording things like that too. If we take a look at the Necromancer scepter trait as an example-

“While wielding a scepter, your condition damage is increased. Conditions inflicted by scepter skills have increased durations.”

The condition damage is a flat bonus just for having the scepter equiped (and is worded similar to our attack speed bonus) and then they specify that only scepter skills get the extra condition duration.

I thought it. You said it. I’m literally LOL right now.

Back on track, I think the trait needs more flavor imo. We don’t even know how it works in its functioning state. Thanks Anet.

I’m a huge fan of Ineptitude. Confusion aside, the blind every 10s combined with Blinding Dissipation makes it a much better pick than Malicious Sorcery imo. The only way I’d consider taking it over Ineptitude is if it went back to the 50% buff to torment.

Well nobody is doing that because of the phantasm overwrite. As a matter of fact, without this, a hybrid phantasm build would be better than the usual assassin phantasm build in both sustained DPS and ramp time (PvE). In the past, if I understood well, all new illusions would overwrite the previous ones, but they fixed so that clones get overwritten in priority. They could most likely easily change so that there is no clone overwrite of phantasm at all.

I think the underlying idea of enhancing raw power via attack speed (Scepter’s greatest flaw, IMO) and cooldowns is good, just not the implementation. For starters, it’s not actually working.

What I’d like to see is something like this:
Malicious Sorcery
Your Scepter cooldowns recharge 20% faster. Scepter’s auto-attack is replaced by a new attack, Charged Clone, which deals increased damage, applies Torment and creates a clone every attack, however this attack is slow to use.
