mesmer zerg protection
Its not that great as a utility slot even if traited. I run traited glamors and I don’t use it after playing around with it some.
I do like using medics feedback though.
I’m a fan of Mesmer focus. I use it traited for reflect but if you are just looking for protection from projectiles, as a group, its ok. Beyond just projectile hate you can add swift to zerg, 5 target pull, and cripple a zerg. If you toss it under your phantasmal warden it will throw out cleansing bolts.
Many will say “cant use warden in zerg fights”. Well no you cannot cast it at 1200 range at the onset of a fight and expect it to do anything. But you can cast it on downed foes after the initial crush.
smart mesmer …..
Based on your answer I can only assume I didn’t read you question properly.
The only other way I can read it is:
Q: Are the reflected projectiles, and the confusing bolts it can proc, any good?
A: As good as the reason the enemy used those projectiles in the first place. Confusing bolts are good if you have condition dmg, as cover conditions and if any nearby allies with condition dmg proc it. Note that if you and/or said allies frequently are @25 might stack, you have condition dmg.
If drop at the precise moment and location, Feedback is, by far, the most powerful utility of the game.

If drop at the precise moment and location, Feedback is, by far, the most powerful utility of the game.
If by “precise moment and location” you mean “get super lucky that you drop feedback against a zerg spamming projectile attacks through a choke”….then sure.

The sadder part is that, unless it coincides with a counter push, it generates no downs, and results in no kills.

That’s actually the most important part. Zergs don’t spam projectiles when pushing, they spam projectiles when taking potshots through a choke. Feedback literally does nothing useful whatsoever when it actually matters.
I think people are confusing feedback with that other useful utility we have that generates a 12s wall that reflects projectiles with a 32s CD.
Oh that’s right, another thing that guards just do better as well as everything else.
Sure feedback can be useful especially the one from medics feedback but it’s not amazing anymore, maybe if by default it lasted 8-10s it might be on par with other trained reflects…
Also lol at focus reflects, it’s about as reliable as a bearbow ranger for doing anything useful in WvW at all.

?
its not about doing any one thing amazing compared to x-something else, its about doing multiple things all stacked in a single skill.

Multiple things? Ok…
- Reflects. Poorly.
- Line aoe cripple. Not really making me jump for joy here.
- Aoe pull. Sure, this is solid…except that every group has stability and/or aegis and this fails to have any effect most of the time.
- Light field. The type of field that guardians fart out whenever they press a button, and one of the most useless fields possible to drop.
Yes, it does multiple things…but they’re all bad.

The thing is to get reflects from focus you need to invest in that trait which stops you taking 2 very useful traits. Condition cleanse on shatter and distortion for phantasms on spawn. Given that temporal curtain is very picky about what it will and won’t reflect that is where the unreliability comes from and the phantasms shouldn’t be alive for more than 1s given the amount of AoE from eles, necros, traps etc.
So traiting for reflects on focus is just not worth it when you get the pull by just equipping the focus and a projectile blocking phantasm anyway that will do as good a job traited or not.
Hence why is said it’s as reliable as a bearbow. Sure it might do something useful on occasion but the majority of the time it’s just going to do what we all expect from it.
