ive gone greatsword and offhand staff because i read a pvp guide based on exploding phantasms, and ive mainly just been pvping, although i suck its still fun.

id like to know how i should gear for pve and how to best learn tips and tricks for pvp thanks

The best guides are videos to me. Osicat’s videos and Vashury’s are great. They have some tips written while they’re playing, to cover their thought process. This is very helpful.

Elxyria – Engineer / Deluzio – Mesmer
Quickblade Vince – Thief
The Asurnator – Elementalist

i second Vinceftw there great tutorial guides, also Osicat has ‘’how to’’ with shatters (exploding your clones and phantasms)

best thing to do is with the staff get in closeish (with a clone for a shield NOT the phantasm #3) build up some might stacks (thats the gold sword symbol bottom right of the toolbar) then use staff #2 to blink out, summon phantasm #3 lay down staff #5

by doing this the phantasm will produce a combo field effect through the AOE on the floor, immediatley switch to your greatsword, through a mirror blade at range as this also will produce a combo field effect, summon greatsword #4 watch the damage roll out continue to range with your greatsword and / or shatter everything on the enemy.

harder to do this in PvP than PvE of course however thats a very loose example on how to combo some things together quickly and easily.

defense:

stakitten ’s AOE – use staff #2 while standing inside and you get Chaos armor for yourself, is you use a single handed sword at any point you will produce the same effect with sword#3 (illusionary leap) if you use null-field at anytime again you will get chaos armor from staff #2 as well of course as staff #4 which also gives you chaos armor.

a ton of defense there

yup, osicat has full builds on his stickied thread, including traits gear and upgrades etc.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-WvWvW-Pve-Shatter-Cat-Updated-3-6/first

for gear i would highly recommend direct damage (power precision and critical damage), because mesmer conditions arent viable in dungeons,
but if youre still levleing, you should just try everything out and see which you like best.

If youre looking to improve your pvp skill, the best way to do that is with practice! practice practice practice. If you mess up somewhere, try to ask yourself why, and see what you can do better next time, see it as a learning moment!

another goodway, and a fun way to improve is by watching videos of others playing, and try to use certain tips and tricks etc that they use.

- heres my first video if youre interested. Here im always solo and outnumbered, which means im fighting multiple at a time.

but most of all, have fun! and the rest will go automatically.

If you ever need help, feel free to send a forum PM or whisper me in game (type /whisper in chat, press spacebar, and type alissah.9281 and then tab)

cheers,
Alissah

best tutorial vids to me were
http://www.youtube.com/user/MrPrometheus0110/videos?shelf_index=0&view=0&tag_id=&sort=p

and

deep insight of basic structures of mesmer mechanics. take your time to watch it.
its prepatch so u have to adapt new stuff by yourself.

together with osicats stuff u should have learned literally evry inch of mesmer gameplay. in theory
