new weapen for mesmer
I’d rather want to see a Dagger added to Mesmer with some sort of Assassin Phantasm. In a way, similar to the one we have in our downed state I guess. Our downed state needs to be re-worked anyways, it’s absolutely rubbish.
I think all professions should get access to more existing weapons, and they stated that is something they would like to do.. over at least half a year ago. Not sure what happened to that statement. Out of the current weapons we can’t use, personally, I find Dagger to suit Mesmer the most.
I don’t think they need to add new weapon types just yet. And even if they do add a weapon type or two, that is likely not going to put us in a better spot. We have fundamental flaws to our class design. Such as paper clones to deal damage, which also attacks rather slowly, etc.
Seafarer’s Rest
Here we go again.
Off the top of my head, in no particular order, I would like:
- land Spear
- 2H Hammer
- MH Focus
- MH and OH Daggers
- MH Pistol
- 2H Bow (short or long), as a melee weapon
After sword got nerfed hard, mesmer needs a new melee 1h weapon. Dagger would probably the best option, as Mace and Axe are both not really fitting (well, it’s not like we couldn’t use a melee pistol or something the like…).
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJTjZ2yriM20o_36MZmMTuA/videos
Something with better range DPS for PVE would be nice. Light armor melee can be a pain.
A second melee weapon set. So I can equip two weapon sets for melee
Dagger would work for mainhand, dagger would also work for offhand.
And the classic, pistol mainhand. I think this has the highest chance to get patched in one day.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
They can satisfy most our desires by putting some effort into broken skills.
But I must say, one weapon I want to see – and something that might sound wierd – is the rifle. Yes, an actual rifle. explosive shots, phantasmal riflemen, aimed shots, etc… I want to see a Mesmer dance with with a rifle.
Dagger makes a lot more sense than mainhand pistol (there’s a reason they didn’t just give us mainhand pistols to begin with).
(there’s a reason they didn’t just give us mainhand pistols to begin with).
What’s that reason?
I feel a MH pistol focused on Power damage makes a lot of sense. We currently do not have a MH ranged Power weapon – it fills an obvious gap in the profession’s skillset.
With the precedent set by Magic Bullet the auto attack could be a bouncing attack, giving us an uptick in AoE damage and synergy with existing traits (Illusionary Elasticity). I would also be curious to see how a stealth skill on MH would work, maybe something like you fire a single target shot that does mediocre damage but cripples, generates a clone, and sets invisibility for 3seconds on a longish cooldown.
Shortbow, I want to shoot unicorns as a Mesmer! xD
i think all weapons could be “mesmerized” with enough thought. Dagger comes to mind but honestly i’d like to see a new weapon, scythe comes to mind, maybe twirling it over the head and summoning illusions like that. But other than that I think daggers or either type of bows would be very cool to see.

MH focus for dual wielding Anomalies would be my top pick, in any case.
Fans. Not foci, but actual fans. I feel like fans would work great for actual leaps/evasive or movement skills – a more acrobatic/kinetic playstyle.
Among existing weapons… we need more melee options. Even though we use staff/scepter at point blank range, I don’t consider them such. So I’d second dagger for a 1h weapon, but we also have a deficit among 2h for melee, so… hammer, maybe? I can’t think of a better instrument to shatter things with.

Spear (on land)?
We have a lot of nice off-hand weapons though, be nice if we could take advantage of them. Scepter buff (heck, rework) would be an obvious way to go for that.
In all seriousness what we do need is ranged direct damage main hand. I don’t care if that is a dagger or a pistol or something else altogher – scepter is just not good enough at direct damage. The greatsword is great, but it does become a bit monotonous.
Would also be nice to have more mainhand melee options – seeing how mainhand sword has been well and truly kittened over the last year or so.
Fans of course thematically fit (as it’s in the confounded class portrait), although I’m not sure whether they should be an entirely new weapon or simply skins able to be used on a focus. If fans were added, I would almost certainly use sword+fan or similar.

+1 for fans but can i get those without a phant or clone skill and can i get them to deal 2x the damage of any other weapon set we have?
also can i get a new class mechanic and remove all our clones and phants to utility status… and then buff all our other weapon damages and uses to compensate for what the devs considered to be a good idea being resigned to where it belonged all along?

I know this is extremely unlikely, but… hell yes!
Would love to swap phantasm summoning skills out for other non-illusion options at the very least.
I can’t imagine clones ever being removed from weapon sets as would have to create some entirely new alternate option to the shatter mechanic.
Maybe if we ever get profession branching/sub classes?

Dude just roll Necro/Ele/Guard. Elementalists have glyph pets, Necros have an entire minion build, and Guard has illusionary weapons which, while seemingly not competitive, have enough traits to make valid enough builds from.
I’m right with you over the pain the nerfs have inflicted, but you’re asking for a complete change of mechanics, including dropping clones and phantasms. Maybe Guardian is perfect for you; they have fire fields, blasts, their pet/illusion mechanic is a utility, and those illusions even come with their own shatter-like effect(Command, if not traited). They even use most of the same weapons as us, so if you have any ascended or legendaries, you can trade them over!
But leave the rewrite out of this. We just need “some” buffs and fixes, and more skills; a complete change of profession mechanics is out of the question both from Anet’s cost:benefit standpoint and a player receptivity standpoint(a lot of people would quit playing if they woke up one day and found that they have to relearn a class they’ve played for two years from the ground up).
And now we’re off topic.
Re:spears: Nah, spears don’t “shatter” things – they penetrate and pierce, and any shattering resulting from that is just physics at work. If you were to pick up a hammer, your aim is to break walls, smash brains, and shatter bones. (I’m not against landspears, I’m just responding to the earlier insinuation.)
Oh, a thing about the hammer idea: Nothing says we’d have to stick to current standards for weapons. What if hammers actually consumed clones/phantasms? What if we had to make a conscious choice in the heat of combat to either consume our current buildup for a strong effect versus build for a shatter?
And for fans, what if fans replaced scepter as our clone generating weapon? Maybe four(assuming dual wield) of the five skills created clones, while letting us do a ton more evading and moving than damaging, with a more obscure phantasm that produced more clones on hit?
OMG DAGGER PLZ I WANT RIGHT MEOW MEOW!
Oh and fans would cool.
Oh and maybe chakrams too as some sort of bouncing 900 range burst weapon that gets us lots of tags and lots of hugs!
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
daggers is a no very simple it have nothing to do with the magic of a mesmer
and btw nercro already use duel daggers
bells are stil better like Kodan how he use it it suits the magic style of mesmer much beter
also 1 of his underwater weapen use music atack also

Swords and Greatwords has nothing to do with the style of the Mesmer either then, right? What does it matter if Necromancer’s can dual wield daggers? An Elementalist can do that too. Thieves can as well. What’s you point?
Out of the current weapons in the game, Dagger seems way more natural on Mesmer, with an Assassin type Phantasm in off-hand, and probably some evasive/damage oriented skills if available to main hand. I don’t really see myself as a Mesmer running around bashing people with a Hammer, I’d rather see Engineer’s get that as a new weapon available to them. Nor do I think either of the bows or a Rifle are necessarily fitting. Mace, not really, it’s too “heavy”. A Shield.. eh, nah… Axes, maybe.. still do think Dagger is a “lighter” looking weapon that fits the profession better. Warhorn, again.. no.
Pistol in main hand could be a nice thing too of course, but that’s another ranged weapon. We don’t really lack in the ranged department.
I don’t think they should necessarily focus on bringing the professions new weapon types. Sure, fans sounds fun. Scythes too (Dervish anyone?). But there’s still currently existing weapons that each profession could get to use, before we get to the need of making new models, animations and so on forth for totally new weapon types. Existing stuff tends to share animations across professions, with the visual spell effects being what sets them apart. Personally, I don’t like the idea of bells at all, sorry, but it just sounds.. no. Bells. Really? You’re going to ring someone to deaf.. I mean, death?

i see a mesmer as a class to make a enemys head go wack confuse them atack orther players
and the sound of bells can maby to that ??
when i saw Kodan the bell ringer i was omfg thats a nice weapen
but if every1 want a dagger its get in my few a bit boring becouse alot of classes use daggers already
but its was just a idee

Aww, the idea of smashing your own illusions to get an effect doesn’t do anything for ya? I felt pretty brilliant when I thought of it.

As much as I’d like to see engineers with hammers, I’ve come to dislike this “make it as easy as possible on the devs” ideal going around. No, screw that. We’re two years into the game, we’re not getting an expansion, and I’ve specifically said “no, I am not buying that” to things I’ve wanted on the gem store because of how Anet has been treating the game lately.
Screw easy. I’m not giving them another cent until I see something BIG happen, something to actually restore my faith in the game. The correct answer here is “give us THREE weapons, at least one being entirely new to the game.” “Give us new utility and elite skills.” “Fix meaningful things.” We’re not just playing a game here – we are their customers. It’s not our job to worry about how much trouble they go through every night for us – our job is to give them money for goods or services, and we want something new, something for everyone.
I’m cool with daggers. I’m cool with hammers, rifles, whatever. But don’t say “fans would be cool, but it would be easier if they didn’t.” Their cost-benefit evaluator guys would see that statement and be like “Oh, maybe it’s not that popular an idea, let’s pursue something else.”
Anet, the bottom line: I WANT MORE WEAPON CHOICES.
Whip.
Just saying..
To make it easy for the devs how about using pistol MH but instead of shooting bullets there’s a giant pink/purple glowing whip coming out of the head of it? Kind of like the gunblade from final fantasy but more etheral.

I will accept this absurdity on the sole condition that they make the legendary pistol fire a little sign that says “Bang!” for melee attacks. OTHERWISE, NO SALE.

Wow.. i just had the craziest idea..
What if we used a bow as a harp?
Personally, I think mainhand axe would be just as interesting as mainhand dagger. The whole illusion-wielding duelist thing mesmer has going for it is very neat.
I’d love to see what the developers would be able to think of as axe skills. Perhaps a new combo field? Or at the very least a decent whirl finisher would be nice.
but why wil you give a mesmer weapens what orther classes use also -.-
its boring as hell and not even unique
mesmer need weapens that is not wearing by any orther class
bells

pole staff
Harp

Violin/Harp !!! best weapon.
I really don’t want to be a minstrel. We could summon one, that would be cool, but the whole joke is we aren’t minstrels. >_>
(Although a phantasm-based weapon that lets you effectively summon an entire band – THAT would be pretty sweet.)
Definitely MH Focus, MH Pistol, Whip. Hell, the second one should have already been in, tbh. Also, if ANet’s going to keep kittening on underwater combat/weaponry … I’d like some land-spear.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior

That would be awesome although I’d prefer an illusionary blade as default.
Dual pistols would be something like Reisen from Touhou.
I don’t think dagger because they already have enough of 1v1 type weapons and not enough AoE through weapons so maybe longbow with lots of bouncing and aoe blasts.
Maybe even axe axe with the stationary spin along with an AoE blast somehow that bounces axes around from enemy to enemy with a powerful phantasm.

I would love to see a MH Pistol option for Mesmers! Since Mesmers don’t really know how to use weapons in the conventional way (who here honestly doesn’t see GS as a glorified sniper rifle?) I could see MH pistol being used as more of a slight AoE weapon instead. Mesmers could shoot the ground to drop a field like Chaos Storm, make a gunslinger illusion that stacks confusion/useful condis, or just bounce magic bullets like Pistol 5 already does. I could also see a MH Pistol unloading skill similar to our iDuelist which would really help our lack of DPS problem.
I know that this would just add another ranged weapon to our disposal which could become redundant, but what Mesmer honestly wants to engage in melee with a war or gaurd….or any class for that matter?
Honestly, a 1h ranged power weapon or any melee weapon would be nice, even if it’s a condi melee weapon (although good luck making it relevant, Anet).
If it’s a condi melee weapon, it’d be more for fun than anything.
AND I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHOOT LASERS. I KNOW ELEMENTALIST HAS CHARGED PULSES AND GREATSWORD HAS LASERS, BUT I MEAN LASERS LIKE THE ORRIAN BEAMS OF AWESOME.
All clases could use another weapon TBH.
As for mesmers, MH Pistol is the obvious choice, but what I really want Anet to add is a land Spear, it fits so well with the mesmer theme of precision and confusion. Evades, counter attacks, AOE, mesmers going Oberyn Martell… tho with the usual nerfs mesmers would end up like him.

as i said.. a halbard!
They said they would attempt to make more weapon variety (current weapon types available to more professions) as opposed to adding new weapons because that’s a lot of animations, skins, drops, and re-balancing they have to do. Also recipes and more. It ends up being a pain for both us players and Arenanet.
