An Ele blocked my GS 2 with magnetic aura ( staff, Earth ). He produced a clone of himself. Is this new? or is it some bizzare stealth nerf?

Certainly not new, its a funny bug that never really appear in real situation. I’d expect them to patch it sometime though.

And there are no 3 clone limit as in mesmer. Even more OP, clonado/Clonich even retain the high damage, even though it still has clone’s hp so it can easily be destroyed.

How could he block/reflect gs#2? Its unblockable.

Apparently not. I watched it happen and asked him about it afterward. He was using a staff in Earth attunement and used [Magnetic Aura]. It reflected my gs 2 and produced an Ele clone.

So a second bug. He did in fact reflect it.

It’s a known bug. Not necessarily the whole “reflecting a clone-creating attack creates a clone for the reflector”. That seems intentional, actually. But the fact that you can reflect Mirror Blade when its tooltip clearly says “Unblockable” is a bug.

The enemy clone bug has been around for a while. Its not game breaking though, i kinda like it and we can have some good laugh out of it.
The gs#2 reflectable bug, on the other hand, needs devs attention coz its a huge nerf to our burst dmg combo.

Other classes creating clones would be one more unique skill gone.. moa, confusion, chaos armor and now clone production? I don’t think that’s funny at all. I think it’s pretty bad.

Its an old bug and it’s tied to Magnetic Aura and not Mirror Blade. You can even create Lich clones by sharing the aura with a Necro if I recall correctly.

Actually, this was not achieved with ‘Mirror Blade’, but with ‘Ether Clone’ from the Scepter auto attack chain, an attack which is blockable AND therefore reflect.

BTT: I just tested ‘Mirror Blade’ vs ‘Magnetic Aura’ and the ele got the damage from ‘Mirror Blade’ and the clone spawned was under my (Mesmer) control like it should be.
Not sure what bug you encountered, but it seems to work fine for me.

I’m unable to reproduce the bug OP had as well, everything works as normal and intended.

Right now the ONLY WAY other classes can make clones of themselves is to reflect our scepter autoattack #3 in the chain (Ether Clone), meaning sacrifice 1 skill (with long cd) against our scepter autoattack and you have to time it right. I think its a fair trade. The clone created is also paper (Lich Form, Tornado form or not), you can just 1 shot it with pretty much anything. So you can relax for now

what about if you buff up your illusion HP with traits and signet, will that affect the HP of the summoned clones created by the other person?

Signet definitely won’t work, since that has to be on you. Traits I’m guessing won’t work, but I guess it’s possible? Generally traits of the person that cast the projectile to be reflected don’t apply. That’s why mesmers can’t reflect kill shots for quite the insane damage that warriors can hit for. You can still hit hard, but you don’t get all of the damage amps that the warrior can add to the skill.

Well I think the video WoodenPotatoes posted pretty much demonstrate that mesmer’s traits don’t work on reflected clones. The clones that he generated can’t inflict bleed (unless that mesmer didn’t trait dueling which is kind of unlikely) on the mesmer, or else we’ll be seeing 20+ stacks with a dozen clone on him.

Still, its worth testing out if mesmer’s traits or reflector’s traits work on those clones, like warrior with bleed on crit or engi with IP. Or with an aura share ele we can test this on pretty much everyone.

Even better, how about a mesmer reflecting mesmer’s scepter auto (some Inception material right here). Maybe this allows the mesmer to surpass 3 illusion limit? Would those clones inflict bleed as regular clones? How can you tell which clone is on your side? Lots of unpractical fun its like an easter egg lol.
