I started to lvl an mesmer, i will mostly use crafting and story, so i will reach lvl 80 unexperienced.
I have an few question regarding builds, for wvwvw / maybe some pve also
I was considering to use this build :
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/mesmer/?4.0|6.1h.h5|c.1n.h17.f.1g.h1|1n.7r.1b.7r.1h.7r.1b.7r.1h.7r.1n.7r|1b.63.3w.0.2w.0.1b.63.1j.63.8c.63|0.k5a.u5ac.0.k67|2s.d|31.34.39.3d.3q|e
High defence, 13 seconds regen every 30 seconds / constant vigor, 1/2 stun breakers, and 18000 hp
But my question is , i will be able to output some damage with so low power and only 1300 condition damage?
is this build decent for wvwvw mostly for group fights, cause i won’t duel a lot with my mesmer. If not , what could i improve /change ?
Can i stack bleeding /burning/posion on enemy’s with staf or my main damage source is confusion ?
Wich weapon is the best for group fights : Staff /greatsword / x/focus ? and the best aoe damage ?

I’ve used a similar build in the past for WvW, and you can certainly make it viable with a few tweaks.

First off, you want Rabid armor with this type of build. The toughness fits with traiting into Chaos, Condition Damage will help increase your dps, and the precision helps proc Sharper Images, which will be a big portion of your dps. When all is said and done, assuming rares/exotic Rabid items, you should be sitting at at least 1600 CD, if not more.

Staff is a must in this type of build. You absolutely need it for the #2, which acts as a non-stun breaker blink AND fuel for chaos armor, which is AMAZING. The other weapon is more flexible- GS will proc Sharper Images more, but a sword/torch will give you some limited CC, a 2s invuln, and another stealth to take advantage of Prismatic Understanding. I would personally go with the sword/torch.

Drop Desperate Decoy, it activates at way too low of health to be useful (if it does at all). Sword recharge would be a better option. Personally, i wouldn’t take the “clones give a condition on death” trait either- traiting for manipulation cooldown (for blink) or 3% less damage per illusion are far more worthwhile.

You can also play this build a few different ways, but when I used it, I had a lot of fun as a “lead the charge” kind of guy. Because of your huge toughness, stun breakers, and null field, you should have no problem surviving a mad dash directly into the enemy zerg. You can run in, get a few hits on the guy with low health, hopefully down him, throw chaos storm on him and blink/phase retreat out. If you get stunned, decoy into phase retreat into blink. if you get immoblized, null field, decoy, and phase/blink. Its a fantastic burst of mobility, and is really fun to play.

I especially loved playing this when 2 zergs were fighting at some choke hold- due to your toughness and bursts of mobility, you can survive running past the initial aoe, start wailing on a few people and draw attention while the rest of your allies can stream through with far less resistance.

If you don’t plan on playing like that though, I’d recommend running Feedback if possible. It does wonders for group fights, even without being traited for confusion/blinds. And if you don’t plan on being in the front lines, I’d recommend a GS for the long range damage.

All in all, its a fun spec that’s definitely viable. You will have some issues tagging loot, however, since your best aoes are chaos storm (35 second cooldown) and Cry of Frustration, which is equally as long and requires illusions to shatter. Confusion can be a hit or miss too, so sometimes you won’t feel like you’re contributing much. Honestly though, you really need to level your mesmer by playing- getting used to certain combos and setting up shatters is a lot harder than it sounds. Fumbling with clone management will really hurt this build a lot.
