phantasmal warden doesn't move
Not entirely true. Phantasmal Warden does move, but not efficiently or well.
One, he will not move during his lengthy swinging + barrier.
Two, he is apparently bugged thinking he has the range of the I.Duelist so he uses his skill when the same distance away as the I.Duelist.
If the I.Warden is not using his skill, and the enemy he targets is out of even the I.Duelist’s range, then he will give chase and immediately stop moving and use his skill once in his “range”.
Not always the case, as I’ve seen the I.Warden actually run up to a target that has moved quite a bit of distance away from the Warden. But rarely chase until the enemy is beyond even the I.Duelist’s range.

Yes, Phantasmal Warden is a very bad skill. ANet should buff Mesmers because they are very very bad.
Yeah.
Oh yes, a very bad skill.
Its not like the Focus is my default off-hand in PvE and in a number of dungeons. [/sarcasm]
=P

Way to ruin the joke
I can confirm the OP that the warden does not move into melee range appropriately. It’s as though the attack range value of the mob is set to a different value than the attack range value of the ability.
We should add this to the bug list.
He is NOT a melee range phantasm either.. why would he move like a melee range clone??
he has a ~450(mayb more up to 600) AOE range of attack..
THO.. he is indeed kinda of bugged because he moves like if he had a 1200 range of attack.. he will ONLY move if the target moves further than that but once he moves.. he will move next to the target just like when you summon it..
THO.. he is indeed kinda of bugged because he moves like if he had a 1200 range of attack.. he will ONLY move if the target moves further than that but once he moves.. he will move next to the target just like when you summon it..if u learn how to play with focus u can make him move a lot by pulling ur enemy using the temporal curtain.
I don’t think you realize his full potential. He is a whirl finisher. Pop him down, pop temporal curtain on top of him and BAM you got condition removal going in all directions. Additionally, weapon swap to Staff, or use a utility to pop down an ethereal combo field on top of him AS WELL. Now you also have confusion going in all directions. He is supposed to have limited movement.
Pretty sure it’s intended not to move. If they made it follow the target like every other phantasm it’d be way overpowered.
I never get to see if he moves because he dies 1.5-2 seconds after I cast the spell… I sigh every time.
he has a ~450(mayb more up to 600) AOE range of attack..
lol, no. Not even close. 1200 is the range on the staff, 900 is the range on the scepter, 600 is the range on illusionary leap, 300 is the range of a dodge roll, 130 is the range of blurred frenzy. Warden is somewhere around 200.
It’s my understanding that it’s not meant to move. It does the most DPS of all the phantasms, in an AoE, has a whirl finisher and reflects projectiles. Sounds fine to me. Learn to use your number 4 to pull mobs into it.
Imo, the real issue is how quickly it dies. Granted, my mesmer isn’t level 80 yet, so that may improve.
Warden is a defensive phantasm, it’s more like a piece of cover you can spawn on top of someone to block shots than a source of damage. The fact it does damage if someone is stuck or foolish enough to stand in the entire animation is bonus.
So much QQing im going to pop (not just this op). Please for the love of god L2P. Take a moment and look at the skills you are using and everything that means. I bet you use Chaos storm to attack with instead of defensivly as well…
Iwarden Blocks all incoming projectiles…. Think about that.
Iwarden IS AOE damage… Think about that
Iwarden hits about 12-13 times in 1 channel….. now look at “Sharper Images” trait and think about it.
Iwarden can do about 3-4k damage direct and add about 5-8 bleeds in 1 channel eaisily when traited
Iwarden is on the Focus same as “temporal curtain” that can give speed and cripple and also throw all enemies to it and give a short 1-2 second knockdown on them… Now think how that could be useful in conjunction with Iwarden.
If using staff as second weapon use Chaos storm ontop of him to give him Aegis many time over if he is being attacked.
Or don’t use Iwarden he is situational but extremely powerful. But seriously instead of QQing how it is not good, becuase if he did move it would be the most OP/broken skill in game hands down, how about you say Hmmmm how are other poeple using this so i can improve. Instead you take the route of this is not workign well for me therefore it sucks becuase obviously the problem is not me im too leet. You should change your attitude if you want to get better.
Or don’t change, i love schooling 90% of mesmers in PvP becuase they have no idea of their true potential.
warden is amazing, l2 use it
The phantasm warden is not supposed to move. It has the highest damage of all phantasms. Rather than the warden moving you could try using the “Temporal Curtain” and “Into the void” and drag enemies in to the warden phantasm. With this combination it is very effective.
The warden is anti ranged really. It’s pretty win/win. Either he’s in melee hurting them or they’re ranged mobs and he’s reflecting them which is even better. You just pop him and stand on him (if you’re full inspiration this will be doubly amazing when the traits aren’t over writing each other and fury). I feel like the focus is good at anti ranged (and can be specced to be even better) combat and not bad up close. If it’s a melee enemy, then kite them on to the warden I guess. As a one shot aoe though, given the cooldown he has, he’s still pretty awesome.
lets not forget that a traited warden can reflect projectiles so he would really have no need to move near targets since his def is really low. i think the main reason for him is to just deal with range atk vs focusing on his strong melee atk tho i consider that an added bonus. plus he has the fastest atk of all the phantasms with haste* on.
I’m still pretty sure the OP was joking.
I don’t think so Rhyno. Focus is arelly an amazing tool and by far (imo) the most fun. But I can’t see I have the same positive feelings toward scepter however.
From my experience the way it’s meant to be used is by using the first focus skill (Temporal Curtain) to slow down the enemy and quickly pop the warden on him so it does a lot of damage it’s also great for targets that don’t move.
But once it’s done that one time it’s pretty much useless as the mobs tend to have moved by then so I just tend to shatter it at that point since I tend to use a focus when using a scepter/shatter type build. I wouldn’t suggest it for a Phantasm build.

The warden is amazing. I too was in the same boat as some, thinking that he was worthless.
Then I started using him and putting him between myself and ranged attackers. This skill is amazing. I use the focus ALL the time now. Dungeons, PVE, WvW. Haven’t played with him in sPVP since it’s a little more chaotic, but I will at some point.
With Sharper Images he hits like a truck.
The warden does hit very hard. One of my favorite uses is casting him on an imobile piece of machinery (i.e. turet, catapult, etc.). You’ll see the health bar drop a lot when he goes into his whirly-dance. Sometimes he’ll absorb the projectile as well (reflect it if traited).
On my lvl 47 mesmer, he’ll do nearly 1000 pts whereas I’m doing a few hundy with my biggest hits.
I just wish the iWarden were more consistent in its behavior, whether it moves between attacks or not.

You’re right, I should have done more accurate testing before throwing out a number. It’s actually just short of 300.
Highest damage phantasm, aoe, protecting from projectiles.
With traits it gets a 100% attack and projectile reflection uptime, and is able to stack bleeding.
Why would we ever use any other phantasm if it was able to chase targets ?

300 is radius, 600 is the total AOE RANGE!
like a circle you know?

No I don’t know because you dont say 600, you start with the point of origination to point of destination.
Also for others who post here (now), most folks are unclear how certain mechanics work so they post. Lets focus on building a strong Mesmer Forum where people can maybe, just maybe learn something and make the community better as a whole.
So many possibilities and different loadouts for PvP vs PvE.

1- Yeah you do that when the attack is NOT AOE based, wich is not the case with the iWarden
2- I wasn’t talking to you, mayb that’s why you didnt know (but now u do), i was refering to my other post where i said something about the AOE attack range, since the attack of the warden is in AOE
300 is radius, 600 is the total AOE RANGE!

The word you are looking for is diameter, or possibly across. Range implies the distance from the phantasm, as when you said “he is indeed kinda of bugged because he moves like if he had a 1200 range of attack.”
I really don’t care if you were incorrect or just unclear though, and I do apologize if I sound abrasive because that was not the purpose of my post. I was simply trying to correct what I saw as a large inaccuracy.
