struggling with mesmer
every1 felt weak when leveling mesmers for the first time. just keep playing and get deceptive evasion as your first master trait. should be significantly better when unlocked. aim for a power builds in anything pve related.
Try a greatsword! It has the highest damage we can do at range while leveling, and by staying away from the mob, you wont get hurt as much.
Try using your F1 shatter. It will do some damage with your clones, so theyre not uselessly standing around.
As for the 2nd weapon, i reccommend you try them all out and see which works for you! I highly recommend sword, though. Its our highest danage power weapon, andblurred frenzy also adds alot of defense.

Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
You should try every weapon, research all their skills. Also, I would prefer staff over greatsword IF you are completly new. Conditions just scale bad into lategame (80) but deal a big amount of damage in early game, since they deal fix damage and you don’t have as much power as one lv80. Don’t think much about my sentence, just go for a staff first, it deals same damage as the greatsword but has much more utility. later, just keep both
as offhand for leveling, sword and focus. The focus 4 is a nice speedbuff and saves you plenty of time for traveling. Also it has a great damage output combined with sword 3 Its much information I know but keep playing your mesmer, about lv40 you will become MUCH stronger. Its because of your traits (passives)
are you EU or US?

I recommend Greatsword and Sword/Focus. Greatsword allows you to keep range, and the 4 phantasm hits hard (does AOE) and cripples. Sword has 2 attack which hits pretty hard and gives invulnerability on a short cooldown. Focus gives you the warden, which does nice AOE damage and protects vs projectiles; it also gives you some speed via 4. I assume you are using minor sigil of bloodlust; it makes a big difference having your power from stacks.

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The guide is great. Focus on power as a primary stat. Get a mighty green (masterwork) gear at level 14 and 20. Get strong green gear at level 26, 32, and 38.
If you still feel week add a minor sigil of bloodlust to your weapon.
By level 40 everything gets much easier.
