temporal curtain
The theory is that ANet was worried about the ability to double-dip Swiftness from one’s Curtain. Meanwhile, Guardian’s Symbol of Swiftness stacks fine with other sources of the buff – it’s just Mesmer what gets the shaft.

Not really. Their implementation is smarter, but it doesn’t “stack fine”.
You only get +1s duration if you run into a symbol if you already have swiftness.
The same should be done to the curtain, ofc.
this is so kittened when i run in group, use curtain and it does NOTHING so i waste cooldown of my only reliable source of swiftness
It has been done due to a beta bug/exploit they preferred to workaround this way rather than fix it directly.
In first BWEs you could drop curtain and then go trough it back and forth getting every time the full application of swiftness. Needless to say stacking alone with a single skill in a istant a minute+ of swiftness isn’t really the definition of “working as intended”.
Since then they made such TC doesn’t apply the boon if you have swiftness already in order to prevent this exploit.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
They should still fix the bleeding thing. Goodness, it’s like IZerker all over again

The last thing mesmer needs is another little status icon next to signets, mantras and food/utilities to give away which is not a clone. ;p
Sanctum of Rall since beta 3. Mesmer since 1070 AE

The most convincing reason for that is that Symbol of Swiftness is AoE, while Temporal Curtain is a line. It does mean that Symbol of swiftness “pulse” its boon (which cause its own set of problems) every second. Whereas the Curtain doesn’t pulse: it buff anything that touch it. So if TC was made to work as SoS (ie pulsing), you could run through it and gain no boon most of the time (easy to cross it in less than a second). And if TC where to self stack, you could enter/leave it quickly and stack swiftness at a crazy, crazy rate. In fact, it did in beta, and you could get multiple hours of swiftness.
They could in fact apply a debuff to go around that, but current implementation isn’t as mind boggling as it first seems to be.
