such a little change and my whole game experience during wvw changed a lot.
staff – scepter/torch feels soo much more fluent now, it is so much fun.
in the future I will never ever doom a patch before playing
other people enjoing torch at the moment?
ps.: could we just add 2 sec to the confusion duration of iMage or let condition duration affect clones/phantasm? would make torch as viable as staff/sword/gs/pistol imo <3

actually torch is bugged right now as you can use it on a 3sec cd without breaking stealth , please hotfix asap because mesmers are abusing it like kittening crazy right now.

Indeed. It’s interesting to see people praising Anet for “buffs” when they are, actually, Anet’s mistakes that they’ve finally reverted after a few months…

But yes, it’s good that they at least did revert it, despite the initial change being totally uncalled for and the revert taking a few months to occur…
What kind of a build are you running? I LOVE torch now… but struggling to find an ‘effective build’ for it

I think I’ve tried that build before! LOVED it in PvP and WvW. Got whined at by some guildies for using it in PvE. I believe the words were something like “ugh. why are none of you running ‘zerkers? I’m the only one DPSing here.”
As a player, I 100% gravitate towards Condition damage and mesmer playstyle. I’d love to find a build that’s solid in all areas and maybe excels in just one or two. Have you done much pve?

The bug he’s talking about is that you can glitch The Prestige to go on the interrupt cooldown instead of its regular 30s one while it still applies its effect (notably stealth).
Retiring my Mesmer from WvW for now until all the new bugs are fixed, but then I’ll try if I can’t get rid of my boring glass cannon build in favour of one that involves the torch. The Prestige is indeed much better now (with the normal cooldown :P).

It’s built around using dual swords and a torch for pretty intense misdirection and being extremely versatile/effective in all game modes. It does good damage while being able to survive anywhere. I can solo tank in wvw and dungeons while waiting on my group and still dish out some threat, then disappear when the heat gets too hot. Also has some support built in.
I outline some good synergies for using the torch as well, so even if you don’t use the build look at those. It’s even better now that Prestige isn’t a channel. Only thing is that it’s a power build, not CD.
for solo/up to 5man groups in wvw or in tpvp.
focus in backpack for 14 sec swiftnes out of battle.
build is nice to outlast enemies and spike them down.
of course abusing the bug is kind of fun but im still doing more dps on my staff :\

Thanks! I tried that build last night and really enjoyed it. I think the only change I made was to go with Sword MH instead of Scepter. I found that Prestige→leap→blurred frenzy→prestige’s passive explosion was a ridiculous amount of burst. Less damage by far than a Focus in PvE, where enemies will stupidly hang out in the warden’s AoE, but great in WvW for ambushing a player.
I do wish the Mage’s damage was a bit more substantial. :-/ It’s pretty embarrassing in PvE right now and still only “ok” in pvp for me. Prestige is awesome now though, for sure
The reason you were wined at for using it in pve is because the torch is horrible in pve. It only does condition damage, and Mesmer cd builds are really weak in pve. Additionally, the utility of the stealth with the prestige becomes a non-issue in pve, while the phantasm is even worse in pve than pvp. If you want to try to use the torch in pvp, to for it. I still think it’s a waste of a weapon, but I can see the uses for it. However, using it in pve just makes you a liability to your team.

and the good old “it’s a matter of playstyle” comes to mind :P
I really wish I could make focus work for me but I can’t. I hate warden and curtain were not very helpfull during my fights. granted I have not traited for it.
on the other hand another cloak helps me a lot and the additional burning (~3.5k damage) is nice. aoe blind is helpful, too. iMage sucks.
but I can imagine a player that is fine with focus mechanics during fights can make great use of it.
