"typical" damage numbers
zerker mesmer can get 6-7k with Iwarden (focus #5), Iwarlock Staff#3 depends on amount of conditions (3-11k), Iswordsman Sword#5(2-5k), Izerker GS #4(3-5k), Iduellist Pistol #4(unknown for me, long time since I used it),Image torch#5 (never used so I have no idea), Icounter Scepter #2(unknown not using this), Imariner Spear #3(not 100%, not running exotic underwater, around 4-7k, guessing that), Iwhaler Trident #4(~1k)
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…
Tbh it will take full berserker gear and putting every skill you have on CD to keep up with a gs or axe warriors dps.
My spatial surge averages 2k per channel. Iberserker like 3k (people claiming higher are only seeing the 1/20 times it touches 5k). Iwarden averages 4k but my focus is only a rare. My power spike tics for 2k on crits (@70% chance it happens alot).
The reason mesmers are so nasty in wvw is because they can hit hard like warriors, spam minions and stealth. But they are not super popular like warrior or guardian because they take effort to play.
On average my Phantsasms don’t hit this hard unless you’ve built for a Glass cannon Mesmer.. and lets face it that’s what Half the MMO population loves to do… and most of the numbers you see for Izerker and such are due to multiple hits across multiple foes.
In combat with a Mesmer Phantasms are good Bust damage but often are on the field only for a very short while. These are each weapons Spike damage dealers (btw scepter doesn’t have a phantasm..) and are much more unreliable than a Warriors 100Blades.
Broken down:
Phantasms do Huge damage every once and a while, often miss or are killed after 1 or less attacks. Higher damage spread inconsistently spread out over minutes
Vs
Dps classes that do High bursts or medium busts consistently over minutes.
End result: Phantasms in a drawn out fight have lower Dps.
Note: Unless fighting another Glass cannon you will be in for a much longer battle than 1 or 2 shatters and a Phantasm hit. (My Mesmer kills your Glassy Shattercats every time just by surviving and drawing out the fight).

Phantasms do huge dmg every time if built and spec’d for it.
I change my build in WvW often. If I want to see consistent, huge numbers I go with a 30 30 0 0 10 build in full zerkers armor and jewelry. My izerkers consistently hit for 6.6k. In this build I have had iMage hit for 13k+ on targets that have tons of conditions on them.
The huge downside to the 30 30 0 0 10 is that it lacks survivability; however it will consistently hit like a truck. Shattercat is another build I will run; 20 20 0 0 30. This build is actually not full glass like most think. Because you have IP, and use a staff you actually have decent defensive capabilities. I don’t hit nearly as hard in the shattercat build, but I can have insane burst with sword 3/3 then sword 2, along with mindwrack.
When I run across PVT mesmers in either build I absolutely dominate them while they tickle me with their dmg output.
I manage around 8-9k with my iZerker on Orr mobs in. That’s individual orr mobs, not big groups.
In WvW, my iZerker is similar to eq’s above, in that it hits for around 5-6k. That’s assuming I’m running berserker gear.
I also run around in a knight set that makes me deal like 2k less across the board, usually. instead of 9k iZerkers in Orr, it’s 7k, etc. A moderate damage drop, but my survivability rockets up. I like running the knight gear in WvW, because it gives me an edge against glass cannon freaks who try to get into a DPS fight with me.
“oops, did you kill my clone with your nuke? Teehee.”
List of numbers though…
Izerker: 7-9k
iWarden: 6-9k
iDuelist: 4-6k
Spear: 6-8k
I don’t really use the others. I used to run whaler a lot, but not so much since they gave him confusion instead of bleed – Confusion is terrible in PvE. He’s probably much more useful in PvP though.

You are so full of it. Go retest you mythical numbers because im lucky to iBerserker anything for 5-6k in full berserker gear.
@swish, yes my mesmer falters against anything with good armor rating and heals to back it up. They simply keep coming and heal up any dmg I do. Soldier stated warriors and guardians are horrid to kill and ussually i just end up switching targets for something more squishy lol.

My iBerserker typically does 4-6k damage, but she has done in the 7-8k range too. It really depends on mob movement, and if each hit crits. If they all crit, it’s not art all uncommon for me to see 6-8k damage. If the mob is against a wall, the damage is even more then that. Using positioning to your advantage will increase the damage of iBerserker exceptionally. At the same time, it has a chance of doing only decent damage too. Just depends. My Warlock can do much more depending on conditions; I’ve seen it do over 9k and very close to 10k in a large group setting.
My GS1 typically hits for 2k as well, but I have seen it go over 3k when all hits crit. On a good Mind Wrack Crit (When they all go off at once, thus triggering compounding power) I can average 3.5 or even 4k per shatter. It makes for very very potent burst. If I use Dazzling minor trait (Daze makes opponents vulnerable), the damage is probably much higher then that.
All in all, I am happy with my damage. I run full Berserkers Gear (95% Crit Damage, 51% chance, about 3407 attack without food) and if I constantly shartter or have the opportunity to to do, I can even pull aggro from warriors or toughness oriented builds. What I really like is seeing a mobs health go down from a full shatter. Lets me know that I’m doing good damage.
oh yeah i may use all berserk armor and trinkets but i run with ranger runes and perception sigil (+5%). Need to get the stacking perception on my offset for another 12% someday. My crit chance is like 63%. used to be 70% with 25stacks but changed it out for something i didnt have to get annoyed with being downed and lossing it all.
probably where im missing out on high dmg numbers with amazing crit rolls.
I use all ruby orbs. Though, top damage actually comes from a full scholar set. I have a hard time staying above 90% health though, so Ruby Orbs are the next best thing. What’s your crit damage at? While chance is important, damage is also important.
When I run across PVT mesmers in either build I absolutely dominate them while they tickle me with their dmg output.
When I run across you guys wearing zerker specced for phantasms or shattercat, I laugh as we tickle each other for days. I’m not PVT, but my build gives me survivability through boons for days. Unless we go underwater or get a third party to damage, the fights won’t end…

96% crit dmg (still need a berserker back item). I would roll scholar but i really like keeping my crit chance high. Ranger runes gives 165 precision (7-8%), 8% crit dmg and 5% dmg with a companion.

But how do you get that 5% companion bonus?
wiki says it applies to any summoned pet. not sure if it works with our skills but if it does it would like to give it a try.

My Phant spec izerker hits for 8K top end in PVE no scaling, if im shatter spec top end is about 5k

Small concession: my 9k hit was before the iZerker damage nerf a while back.
However, your inability to break 6k regularly seems to be a personal problem – Here’s a couple screenshots I took real quick for the express purpose of pointing out you’re wrong.
6.6k and 7.2k in the pictures, using a 10/30/0/0/30 build (shatter/mantra hybrid) that I had been playing with before the patch. The food is butternut squash curry, it boosts pre by 100 and crit damage by 10%
This is, as you can see, without a stacked bloodlust sigil, or that consumable that gives you more power based on your vit/tough. My sword uses a fire sigil, so it’s also without a flat extra crit damage boon – I could push this even higher by dropping the 30 from illusions to invest in power, or the inspiration tree for another +15% illusion damage boost (15% of 6k is around 630, so that’d push the average crit into the 7k-8k range on it’s own).
Or, I could get ascended gear/back piece to tweak up crit damage a little more.
So long as your iZerker actually hits things with its spin, damage like this isn’t a problem. The only issue is when your iZerker derps and decides to only hit a target once out of it’s 5 or so pulses. If you’re kiting properly though, this shouldn’t be an issue – The enemy will chase you, the berserker will chase it, and the enemies own speed will keep it hitting the target as it spins. Even easier when the target’s hitbox is larger – Like, say a boss or champion mob.
Anyway, just dropped by to point out that a completely inefficient build towards phantasm damage surpasses what you think phantasms are capable of. Maybe do some more testing yourself?
Typical numbers for everyone vary greatly depending on how you build and play something. iZerkers typical could range anywhere from 3k to the aforementioned 7-8k. My average is around 6.6-8.1k (a full 1k less than before the iZerker nerf some time back).
When I run across PVT mesmers in either build I absolutely dominate them while they tickle me with their dmg output.

Sounds like a good PVE build
Mine..
Crit only
iBerserker = 1,5k ~ 2k / Hit
iSwordman = 3k ~ 6k/ Hit
I did manage to crit a 11k in WvW on an obviously under-scaled player with zerker phant last night. Too bad there is no combat log that supports this claim.

This. I really wish our phantasms showed up in our damage logs, so we could get a solid grasp on how many times it hits, what it hits for each time, etc.
Otherwise we’re having to run recording software. or hopping we can slam SS at just the right moment.
