[vid] Hybrid shatter :>
I think this will be an awesome build come the trait revamp. I’ve tried running something similar recently, but playing shatter without IP just drove me crazy. Once IP is baseline, I think a build along these lines will be pretty cool to try.
My opinion is that the “hybrid” part of this build, currently without IP, is only good for having GS. You kill people much faster as full condi currently with maim I think. As I said, once IP is baseline and depending on the numbers for MW, it may be a different story.
Edit: Also, nice vid

I liked it too! Very enjoyable and I agree it’s likely only going to get better.

told ya it was fun
my build is with sinister jewels and phantasm dmg/fury (dropping halting strike and imp. blink), it’s really fun to play and effective

sinister jewels and rabid armor? what about weapons?
I mean, the build works, no doubt about that. But I think the gear is what makes it okish, good or great (that’s the main reason why it doesn’t work that well in pvp, because lack of gear choice)
Have you though going full sinister? (or with the majority of pieces, anyway. If you wanna slot in some knight that’s fine).
Is sinister purchasable from TP?
edit. one more question: would it work without travelers? I am not keen in investing on a second travelers set of runes. I already have them on my zerk set and I would be considering something different, like air or pack (I run with focus and those sets gel extremely well with my wepaon choice)

You can’t purchase some vital sinister recipes from TP, you have to do it through Living stories. On the other hand rampager is also a similar choice, with minor reduction in damage.
I was talking with another fellow mesmer the other day about full sinister. You can check this thread.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Sinister-Gear-And-Build-Advice
I’m running almost full rampager atm and so far it isn’t too bad. Essentially Maim the Disillusioned got beefed up by duration food. Just like what I said in that thread, you have almost 70% condi duration with food/traits/oil, so your torment duration from weapon skills and shatter are around the same time as skill CD anyway. This means traveler runes is perfectly fine, any more duration buff is welcomed but kind of unnecessary.
Back to OP, thanks for the fun video! I’ll try staff over scepter/pistol sometimes! But in my build one scepter block = 9000-ish damage over 13s so its a bit hard to give up ><
Whoops misread your question trooper, I don’t think you have to run traveler, any rune set is fine and pack is quite deadly. You just have to run with swiftness.

Yeah, rabid (exotic) armor, sinister (ascended jewels), exotic rabid staff and and exotic zerk GS to make up some power and ferocity lacking in the rest of the set.
I tought about going full sinister but I can’t be bothered to craft the armor and buy another set of travelers :P
Not sure if Sinister is purchasable, I got the ascended jewels from the Season 2 achievements (yay pve!).
I think the build only really works for roaming (too much condi removal in big groups) and roaming without traveler’s is… painful. Pack doesn’t really help with off combat mobility.

Very nice! Echoing Menaka, I run a mix of Rampager/Berserker/Sinister/Knight in WvW when I use maim. It’s Rampager armor, and I’m often torn between Traveler Runes and Perplexity runes, so I usually switch back and forth :P
Double ranged condi shatter is really strong. Moreso than people realize I think. In WvW I normally do sword-torch/scepter-pistol, but I’ve dabbled in the other weapons too. GS/Staff with a Rampager amulet and Nightmare runes isn’t a bad setup to try in SPvP if you want to get used to the build.
Nice vid!
I ran double ranged hybrid shatter quite a bit a while ago too. I preferred mostly celestial gear to get a good stat layout and then patched up the lacking stats with jewelry. Got a small video with it on my channel if you’re interested.
I’ve been planning to try MtD with full sinister, but I’ve kinda lost interest in GW2 lately. Maybe the new traits will spice up the game again.
Anyways, keep it up!
WvW Roaming with Mesmer
Tried running this again last night, had a pretty good time.
Opinions wanted: staff or scepter/torch?
Edit: Actually, probably giving up too much mobility with scepter/torch over staff. Lately I’ve been playing power shatter again and have gotten really used to sw/torch. I may try this with sw/t as well and see how it goes. I fear I may be giving up too much pressure though.

@MSFone, I’m repeating myself a bit here, but don’t knock the s-t/sc-p combo. It takes some getting used to as a mid-range harasser/skirmisher, but I’ve had a lot of fun with it. Especially when you get get a duelist or two out, and just bait some defensive skills.

I believe you, I just love my GS :P Especially after making an ascended zerker, can’t go back. Imo GS is just too strong, especially in roaming. In any build with a real power component imo GS is always better than no GS.
Pistol is cool but imo it only works on unaware opponents and is pretty unreliable. Just a few autos kills the duelist, not to mention random aoe. On the outskirts of a group fight sure, set up duelists and watch em go, but it’s too situational for me. GS just works.

Now I’m motivated to try double ranged combo :p

The immobilize on sword is nice to land your shatters, but your sword clones will be pretty useless compared to staff clones… and the torch phantasm is… meh.

Thanks for all the feedback \o/
@MSFone i totally agree this build will only be more powerful after the changes, i was playing with spec. calculator by that_shaman and came up with a few options this build can go, both relying on IP staying baseline to truly empower mesmers!
Maximum clone/phantasm generation!
http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgMCXAV8Bpg~
Despite chrono trait weapons will most likely remain staff/GS
Use GS 2, GS 4, go in for a dodge+shatter. You get 1 clone back from Illusionary Reversion and iZerk respawns because of Chronophantasma, switch to Staff use Staff 5 + Staff 2, you’re back at 3 clone to shatter again! and the only clone-generating skill you used after the first shatter was Staff 2!
Tho w/o domination you do lose boonstrips + stronger shatters + other awesomeness :c but the same old domi/duel/illusions would work with this build easily, with chrono on the other hand you don’t need traveler runes no more.
Meaningful decisions! yay! \o/
Tried running this with sword/t and as expected, it was horrible. Switched to staff and it was very fun. I ran 0/6/0/2/6 with menders and HM and it has solid sustain. Lot’s of fun.
Once update drops with changes to condi dmg/scaling etc. it will be interesting to see what the best stats are for this kind of hybrid.
I actually run centaur runes, which work well with mender’s and mantra. Post update I think I’ll be dueling/illusions/inspiration. Inspiration looks great(fingers crossed they don’t neuter it).
As far as losing boon-strip, I find condis to be a pretty good counter to boon stacking classes, as protection is really the only bad one (and I guess regen, but you can spike through that). I have been playing without boon-strip in various builds and I don’t notice it at all. Granted I mostly hot join and roam, no serious tpvp.
Edit: One thing I haven’t tried and am planning to, is GS with scepter/torch. The stealth from torch is really nice, and I wonder if this would be a nice compromise. The block really doesn’t replace the evade from sword, but maybe you’d have condi pressure enough to compete with staff. Given the new traits in illusions you could trait torch and scepter.
