Not the first to note this, but thought it deserved it’s own thread:

How bad will this vigor nerf be to shatter builds relying on DE? My guess is kinda bad.

Some will say chrono makes up for this, but in so doing you are just trading needing one trait in order to function for another, the problem is still clone generation being too weak without said trait.

With the many great changes coming next week I’m still excited, however this vigor nerf hits us much harder than other classes due to DE imo.

DE is so 2014 at this point. Honestly I don’t use it much anymore, and there will be so many other options now. With the host of buffs to scepter, I’m thinking that might be the new optimal way to pump out clones for shatter, and DE was never wanted in phantasm builds anyway.

I think it’ll slow them down. But honestly… there are a TON of amazing boosts that may compensate.

First, the buffs to scepter will help make that a clone-producing weapon. Take a look at the livestream, which recently got posted. Clone production on AA is pretty great. other weapons similarly seem to encourage “greater than 20% recharge when played well”. Staff comes to mind, for sure.

Second, we’ve got a lot of great skills that reward us for dodging successfully. Mirror on dodge, iDefender on dodge, blind→confusion on dodge. Maybe simple evasion + a clone won’t be the best use for our dodge-pool?

Finally, Chronomancer is coming in the future. Alacrity and a few illusion creation opens may come with it. Between a 20% weapon skill reduction, a 20% illusion-skill-reduction from Illusions, and Alacrity… I think we’ll have plenty of options to work up a good illusion production rotation on a variety of builds.

Yeah, the vigor nerf is going to hurt us certainly. We’ll still work, and we’re admittedly getting a lot of really great buffs. I’m not entirely sure exactly how it’s going to ultimately settle, but I feel that we’ll still be in a much better place, vigor nerf notwithstanding.

Think of it this way. I always run double energy sigils, no questions asked. That’s 1 dodge every 10 seconds. Vigor gives you another 1 every 5 seconds currently, for a total of 3 every 10. Nerfed vigor will give you one every 6.667 seconds, for a total of 2.5 every 10 seconds.

You’re only losing .5 of a dodge every 10 seconds, and that’s with permanent vigor. Less than permanent vigor means less of a difference. I don’t think it’s going to be that big of a deal.

Keep in mind also this is a nerf to ALL professions, not just mesmer. That honestly makes this much easier to swallow.

I just wonder when they’re going to nerf fury, then move on to protection, then back on to the next highest combat boon.

I do hope they do a pass over at some point afterwards to see if classes are really suffering from this or not. I know I’m a bit wary of this on my ele as permanent vigor went a long way to having that dodge up when you needed it as opposed to becoming wallpaper paste.

No. Simply because 1. That would be stupid and 2. All illusions are bound to a target. How would that work if you dodge somewhere without anything that can be attacked nearby? No clone? But still… point 1 still applies even then. ^^
