For PvE I feel like you can’t go wrong with burst damage of sword + focus (even multiple mobs) and then if things go wrong the staff is a great secondary weapon. Just try them all though and see what you like the best.

I personally like using the Sword/Focus – Greatsword for leveling. The Pistol off-hand deals more damage, but the focus is the only way to gain swiftness while traveling the map and without swiftness you’ll be spending a lot of time traveling. Also the focus iWarden is the hardest hitting phantasm, when it hits. I typically find that his “stationary” nature tends to miss 50% of the time when soloing unless you feel like tanking the mob next to him.

Now, if you are the type that enjoys the surrounds and taking your time then Sword/Pistol may be your set.

To me the Greatsword has the only power AOE for event tagging, which is why I use it. Plus the added might from the GS#2 attack helps when you switch to your sword for a iLeap swap into blurred frenzy.

I agree with what the others are saying. Sword/focus + shatter can kill trash mobs in <3-4s easy. Lots of trash mobs in maps, plus once you learn to use the focus well, you’ll never put down b/c it also gives swiftness.

GS and staff both make excellent secondaries for outing and synwrguze very well with sword/focus when skirmishing. I love them both and cannot decide which is my favorite, so I tend to go GS for outdoors and DEs and staff for indoors where space is tighter.

Without any doubt whatsoever, Decoy.

Decoy is a great utility skill to pick up as it provides survivability and an extra clone.

I would also recommend Null Field, to get an extra Ethereal combo field, and great for getting rid of conditions on yourself.

At the lower levels it is hard to pass up Decoy. The survivability it offers is amazing. Plus, the extra close is nice when you need a quick third clone just before a Mind Wrack

You’re able to learn everything. Personally, I don’t like Signets and got them last, along with Racial Skills.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

I’ve used Staff/GS almost exclusively and haven’t really had a huge problem with anything thus far. I’m level 73.

Actually, the tooltip isn’t as useful as you’d think.
It definitely was my first choice in the Beta Weekends, because the effect occurred out of combat, so I could always start a battle with at least one boon. They have made it so the effect only occurred during battle, which meant that the first boon came up after 10 seconds in battle.

Its active effect, however, I have seen it fantastically in groups to spread all boons.

I’d argue for being in parties, Null Field is much more useful.

You can clear everyone’s conditions (I have used it during the Flame Shaman’s fight in Charr region to clear about 30 people of burning), and give an Ethereal Combo Field for everyone to use. (Confusing Projectiles + Chaos Armor)

My personal opinion on unlock order of utilities in pve:

Blink/Decoy > illusion generating skills = glamours > signets> other manipulations > mantras.

Knowledge is power.
