where is empowering mantras?
I remember it got changed to something that is mechanically different.
Do you mean from the previewed changes? I’m pretty sure they explicitly removed that one because it rewarded taking mantras and then not using them. Their replacement for the damage multiplier was the new Ferocity bonus on the updated Harmonious Mantras, since that gives a damage bonus immediately after using any mantra.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Found it. It is merged with harmonious mantra and functions as a stacking 4% ferocity bonus as you activates mantra.
Yeah the idea behind the change is that before you were basically punished for using your Mantras with EM, whereas now the stacking Ferocity buff only lasts 8s, but each time you actually use a Mantra you can get this buff. So if you use Mantras a lot you can get a big boost to Fericity, but of course it will be followed by a huge down-time trying to recharge them all.
Let’s hope that they’re reworking the charging of Mantras as well. Now that another profession will also have to suffer it’s clunky & slow use, we can hope that they will actually improve the mechanics of Mantras a bit. (At least the charging!)
Otherwise, it would be feasible to focus on getting on-demand Quickness so that you can at least charge them a little bit faster. (btw Protected Mantras was made baseline, in case you’re looking for that! )
Suggestion:
At the very least, make charging Mantras out of combat significantly faster then in combat. That would help a little bit with running more then 2 Mantras, which personally I refuse to do because it’s just too much of a hassle keeping them charged.

Well, we don’t know for a fact that Mantras will be given to another class. Nothing really prevents them from handing out Manipulations or Glamours to an Elite Spec instead. I think it’s 50/50 between Mantras and Manipulations being the Mesmer-only skill type that another class picks up. (I don’t think anyone else will get Glamours, just because they seem to overlap with Wells, Consecrations, etc..)

Tbh I can’t see the unique aspect of Manipulations. What’s the major difference between Manips and Catnips? Okay, Catnips are more selfish, but f.e. Blink and Lightning Flash are really similar.
If we’re speaking about unique Mesmer-utilities, they would be Mantras (or Phantasms, but those are our class mechanics, at least more than necro’s minions).
And ofc Glamours are like Guardian’s Consecrations.
ive run mantra of pain and mantra of resolve on one of my mesmers (main pve mesmer) since launch. I actually like this change though, I see some… interesting things I can do. This with the chaos armor trait…yesssss….
I’ve always thought Mantras should just gain charges at set intervals of time. The manual charging mechanic is clunky and makes running multiple Mantras cumbersome. In general, the time I spend essentially dazing myself to charge them isn’t worth their pay-off and that dreaded charge-up is going to prevent me from wanting to burn charges to maintain the new trait bonus.
Instead of thinking of Mantras as a brief Chant that Mesmers use to store power, they should think of them as a constant – dare I say “Mantra”, the Mesmer focuses on to gradually accumulate power.
A good example is Corki’s missiles from League of Legends (or numerous other skills. The Monk’s Roll ability in WoW). The gist being that you can store up several uses and gradually gain them back at a slower rate than you can use them. Though I would definitely suggest a reasonable CD between many of the Mantra uses (ie Daze).
Oh no, they’re doing away with that? That’s one of my favorite traits! I liked it because it actually forces you to balance using the charges and saving them for real emergencies or burst dps instead of just spamming on CD.
