I use Centaur runes in wvw, I switched out for other things for awhile but I was pigeon holed into using a focus.. Which is a decent weapon, but not one I prefer using. Being without swift in WvW is just bad..

I use rune of Centaur for WvW.
Ruby Orbs for PVE.
Rune of Lyssa, Mesmer or Divinity for sPVP.
I used to use centaur runes, fun and cheap but I hate having to use mirror. Using airs & focus now

I use centaur runes only because I do a fair amount of wvw and without it I’m so slow it’s painful (outside of combat). I tried and it just makes me want to cry so slow.
If I was just doing dungeons I would choose better runes for sure but alas anet decided majority of mesmer specs should be slugs versus all other professions (except maybe guardian but even they have better out of combat swiftness choices without runes).

Definitly. I don’t think anyone “wants” to use them. I would love to use scholar. But i think most Mesmers that are serios about WvW use the runes. Simply because it’s our only reliable method of speed.
I use Beryl Orbs on my Zerk-set.
I use centaurs all the time in sPvP. Need the speed to cap points. Bonus is you can’t be interrupted while healing. Still I’d use ether fest if I had a choice, but I really need the speed.
Centaur runes are horrible. However, they (or air) are absolutely essential in any build that doesn’t use the focus in combat. Without some sort of reliable swiftness, fights become far more difficult in terms of mobility, chasing, and escaping. Even in my tank build with a focus, I still really hurt for reliable swiftness, as temporal curtain simply isn’t enough, and sometimes I have swiftness up from chaos storm/armor which of course means temporal curtain won’t work.
Yea, had to drop a set of Undead for ’em. Got sick of being left behind the fights.
