So yea. My guard and Engi im great with in WVW, thief and mesmer im awful. I can kill people with my mes, but not as well as I want. I think im just not good with a shatter build but maybe im wrong. whats a good WVW set up that isnt condition based? I prefer engi for cond so im trying to find a pretty good sustained or burst spec for wvw. sorry for the horrible grammar and I know theres tons of posts like this but I just got hog tied and whooped in wvw

go with phantasm, it’s a good way to ease into using stealth. The key to both mesmer and thief is stealth. use it as a weapon for both offense and defense. Go with a stealth heavy phantasm build , it’s easy and effective .

My answer totally depends on what type of build and mainly armor stats you are currently using.

Using berserker is alot harder of a playstyle to use then say knights(amazing). This is mainly because mesmer is moderately squishy and by putting most to all your stats (traits aside) in to non defensive attributes will result in you dieing much easier and more often when getting caught to many times. This ties directly in to skill as playing a glassy spec although will result in much more damage and burst will require you to use your defensive arsenal however small to their fullest.

Also I would very much want to know what weapons, styles, and specific aspects about the Mesmer you like? Unlike most professions Mesmer has tons of viable builds and weapons. Thus it is not what build is most effective. It’s about what type of play style you like and then forging from your imagination or knowledge you find on the Internet the perfect build for you.

(try and be creative in using skills in ways you never thought possible. Every time I hop on my Mesmer I always seam to find some new trick or combination that makes me smile)

Try Sensotix Bountiful Interruption TPVP build (works in WvW) or Osicat’s Shattercat Heavy. These are more powerbased, might stacking and burst but also decent survivability.

if u like roaming, then yes there is a ton of great builds for u. i use blackwater mesmers build for roaming, but in zvz which is the biggest part of wvw, i feel very limited atm. i feel like support only ankitten ot having fun like this at all. phantasm mesmers melt very quick in a zerg so u can try it but make sure to kite(also phantasms die very quickly in a zerg), shatter is pretty much the same as all ai based skill are pretty weak in a zvz situation.
a lot of our builds here are limited to smaller groups and roaming. i wish there was something that is as effective as glam was.

i find testing wvw builds in 8v8 spvp can be helpful.

Builds share by Sendmark are really effectiv in roaming u should try these. But as said Selan in zvz we don t have really something to play since glams nerf, you should keep your guard or engi for this type of play.

Ok. Good posts above but I think you should step back and examine how you play. Guard is (ok, it’s how I play my guard so YMMV) about face-tanking. Engi (yes, I play pistols and pots) more along the lines you need to be thinking of with Mes.

Guard is in their face-I can take it-you are dead. Engi is I’m dodging-look at all those conditions-hmm I wish these fights went quicker-oh and you are dead. Mes on the other hand is I’m in your face-but no I’m not-oh look at that shatter-but now you can’t find me-oh here I am in my clones but now I’ve blinked-and this shatter BOOM and you are dead. My thief is S/D so I play it pretty much like Mes.

You play guard, engi, mes, and thief. It sounds to me like you like to press the attack so I think shatter is the build you want to run. Certainly try GS for the sit-back pace it provides but I think you’ll do better by changing how you approach the fights rather than by a specific build or magic tweak.
