4 sec Burn Every 10 sec Grand Master
On an axe, I’d rather take Close to Death. Axe works far better with straight power than any sort of hybrid build, so the burning without the condition damage is kinda meh. Yes, it has decent damage, but not really something I would trade Close to Death for on an axe build.
Isn’t the point of the burn to add DPS on the axe so it is competitive now when you also consider the near perma retaliation?

Granted there is more that a necro can arguably do with it, I still hate the fact that this is a supposed to be a Grand Master Trait (if leaked notes are to be believed). I mean the Engi has Incendiary Powder – 100% chance to inflict burning for 4 seconds on critical hits. This effect can only trigger once every 10 seconds. as an Adept trait. REALLY?!
Lets say you want to play Dagger+Focus / Staff think of the 30/xxxxxx build with burn now!
I’d say that this is the damage on the axe we have been asking for. 20% from axe+ 20% from near to death would result in some amazing criticals.
No changes on death and blood make me sad..
I find it hard to believe that these are the final changes just because of death and blood..
Still the useless siphon, still the useless minor traits of death magic… Blood to power is going to be the only unchanged minor grandmaster trait that gives only 5% dmg and over 90% hp…

Hard to believe this trait is grand master when engis get it as an adept. It iss the exact same trait…
I would NEVER take that trait over 20% damage to under 50%, unless I’m a rampager 30spite/30curse build.
Remember in order to get access to the 4 second burn you gain +30% condition duration which naturally makes Dhuumfire burn for 5 seconds with with a typical hybrid build on around 1200 condition damage deals 3.2k damage every 10 seconds.

Dagger is single target. This is why necro melee is considered weak.
Wondering if dagger / warhorn or dagger / dagger is better for d-fire than axe. Need to think about tis more. With a high hit rate and high crit rate the fire proc could get capped and, therfore, wasted. However, dagger damage is good though short range. Scepter, of all things, might be more interesting with fire on a hybrid if its effective fire proc rate is close to axe or dagger. Scepter rarely misses while giving ample range.
All the weapons should see a damage boost with fire but how that will influence the build types remains to be seen.

Why? The 10% damage bonus doesn’t apply to conditions? I guess it would be okay in a hybrid style build, but I have other runes I would prefer in a hybrid build.
30/30/10/blubb works as a hybrid with wells. And since most of your times you will be standing on balconies throwing deadly goo on points, you get the 10% bonus pretty often.
I think a lot of people overrate the 20% dmg trait. If you dont go in as a full on gc with the intention to wellbomb someone in a “once-every-5-games” dark pact, Close to Death is only a nice to have trait, because necro, in contrast to every other class, has no real burst. There are only auto attacks and wells in terms of direct damage.
For everything hybrid related, the burn will be strong. 8-10 insta bleeds plus terror plus burning will put some serious pressure on people. Terror and burn on itself are a really strong “poke” of sorts.
Still, condi builds are lame and i want the sparkly vampire love.
Edit: Just an idea i had: are the 100% crit on weapon swap sigils still in the game? If so, they could make Dhuumfire be usable without high precision.

I think the burning is for more of a might stacking build, since the might would increase the burning and the direct damage you do, so you run might duration runes and get dhuumfire, or just pure power build and get close to death.
The burning is for those condition users that want to go full glass traits, and can live with shorter fear durations, or no greater marks. Or for hybrids.
But for those of us in WvW, we can take 40% duration food, and go 30/30/10 for massive burst, +100% fears, +80% all other conditions.
I will tell you right now, things may be sad in Spvp or Tpvp, but in WvW, expect of videos incoming from me of face melting extreme.
Basically my normal burst combo got around a 900 DPS increase. In the two seconds of fear, that adds about 1800 damage. And if that poison duration increase made it in, that will make that condition last longer as well.
I am going to hunt down zerker thieves with 12000 HP, just so I can kill them in 3-4 seconds like they kill me in 2 seconds.
EDIT: Nevermind that I can also drop marks, cast BIP, then epidemic with now a burn glued onto that combo every time.
It should be 33% chance to cause burning for 2 seconds. No internal CD, our AOEs can’t help us.

How do you get 100% fear and 80% other cond duration on top of the new burning trait with a 30/30/10 build (you aren’t taking the 50% fear trait). I’d genuinely like to know caus I’ve been number crunching myself!

Yes, 10% from nightmare runes and the other stuff.
Unfortunately, that is basically the only choice…. more condition duration is a waste, and less will not get you to 100% on fear.
EDIT: Also with para sigil you really only need to get to 74% duration, but if you are going to go to 74%, you may as well go on to 80%

To be fair, Engineers have the trait “Adrenal Implant” (+50% endurance regeneration) as a grandmaster trait, which rangers get as a 5 minor trait “Natural Vigor” (Same exact thing). They feel the pain too.
