So sorry if this has been done but thought I’d put in my 2 copper.

The ability I’m suggesting is an ability called Soul Rend. This inflicts a new condition called “Torment” which deals condition damage to a target enemy for 6 seconds which stacks for each ability on cooldown. (3 stacks per cooldown)

No. Another damage condition is boring and only serves condition necromancers.

We need something way more interesting, the best suggestion I’ve heard so far was something along this: (Apologies to the original author of the idea for not giving credit, I don’t remember who you are! Feel free to remind me…)

A condition that, if cleansed, does something bad to the player cleansing it, related to the conditions already on him when he cleanses. The suggestion gave the example of dealing half the damage say 20 stacks of bleed would deal over their total duration if you removed them and this condition at the same time. My personal opinion is that this example in particular wouldbe OP to the point of broken but it is still a good idea, and numbers can be tweaked all they have to…

This is good as it serves to protect all of other conditions, be damage or disables or debuffs and all that…. And every necro build runs conditions of one kind or another.

;)

[tongue in cheek] Necros OP, pls nerf.

Love,
The guardian community sick of our boons being corrupted. [/tongue in cheek]

On a serious note, I don’t mind the idea from the OP. As it stands, a necro going into DS basically puts a target on their head (generally used as a panic button on low HP) so (rightly or wrongly) a lot of players throw a bunch of utils at killing them.

Obviously there’s balancing to be done there, but its a different type of condition targeting a player’s skill level.

A condition that essentially removes condition removal would be almost an ‘I win button’. To make it not OP you would need to reduce the damage it does to the point of redundancy IMO.

That could be good or bad depending on the side effect, we shall see…

Actually “no” right back at you. As I recall, Anet stated that the 5th ability was going to be a new condition that provided DOT. As such, this fits well. The thing about DS is that it often serves as a buffer for a necro’s regular HP. This compliments that buffer effect as for each ability the enemy uses on you, the more damage they stack on themselves. Also, look at it in terms of playstyle. This works well also with reducing aggro by at least providing threat to enemies looking to bulrush you down with their abilities. I would think that this would be a useful ability for necro’s regardless of the build.

Enemies downed/defeated while suffering from this new DS 5 condition are added to your DS 6-9 skill slots. Each summoned fallen enemy requires a 1% upkeep of life force. OP?…nah lol

Depends on how it scales with condition damage really. A lot of builds run 0 condition damage.

I guess you are a conditionmancer and simply wish more dps instead of a new fun gameplay element?

Actually im a tank build necro wanting some effective aggro punishment when I kick in ds. Stop looking at the fact that it’s a condition and look at the meta-game. Good enough ability to be used by all necro builds, but not OP so as to make handling the condition unmanageable.

Also keep in mind we have no say that it is a dot and new condition. Anet, I repeat, ANET had decided this would be the case. They simply asked for suggestions on how it could be implemented.

I feel like both the DoT on skill recharge and the DoT on condition removal would be way too complicated. Looking at the other conditions, they always have one or two effects that are intuitively linked, and easy to remember. Like poisons DoT + less healing or chills less movement + less recharge.
If it’s simple, you know how much to panic if you see the condition on you.
So stop me if you’ve heard this suggestion before (I haven’t read them all) but what about a DoT that decreases attack speed? Call it fatigue or something?

The Fatigue ability seems cool too.
