Q:

This question has been on my mind for some time.

Minions, and pets of all kinds, no longer take untargeted damage in PvE but were strengthened many times previously to not be so terrible.

I have wondered if playing pets has become a bit too easy in casual PvE and they may need a toughness or dps reduction.

Please convince me otherwise. Those annoying flesh bags may get in the way half the time when they are not staring at flowers or picking fights but they are pretty durable when traited right.

Do you like to lose all your minions in 2 sec to random aoe? If not, just enjoy the way they are, they are not OP.

I was not suggesting removing their immunity to random AoE. Try reading, again.

Minions and other forms of pets can make some game modes very easy.

If it is too easy for you, don’t use the MM build.

Actually, I usually do not run minions for that very reason unless I am sleepy and feel like I might AFK by accident. It is not just Necro with killer pets, either.

Anyway, it seems like most players like having an easy-mode for HoT exploration, though, so I will leave off on the topic.

Minions are easy mode for Necros but will never be top tier dps. Unless you count the Viper Horror build but that is only with adrenal mushroom abuse.

Minions and pets still die easily when focused. I think the balance is fine now.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos

lol you dont need mushrooms to be good dps. condi reaper has good dps without mushrooms. you need mushrooms and heals to be exploitative.

take a viper horror build into fractals and watch how hard it carries. you can facetank anything and it makes even lame 80-100 fractals easy.

Regarding the question of that thread, my answer would be :

Does it really matter?

The point is that the actual resilience of the minions is void in competitive content (aka PvP/WvW) and doesn’t make the necromancer a better pick than any other profession in PvE. So does it really matter that playing a minion build became the easy way for lazy necromancers to reach the same result with more survivability than non minion build?

Beside, at this point I wonder what we have to consider as a Minion build. Is this a build filled with minion as utility or is it a build that only take 1 minion as a healing skill and fill everything else with skill that aren’t described as “minion skills” but shout/spectral skills. Do these build rely heavily on minion trait or did it only rely on few skills exploitation?

Minionmancer’s build make you sturdy, that the choice development of Anet. I find it difficult to make any complaint regarding the fact that it finally reach a really sturdy state that make it not totally useless anymore in PvE (thus, after 3 whole years).

Instead of complaining about the minion resilience in PvE, shouldn’t we ask the dev to take a look at :
- Blood fiend passive healing. (I think it’s okay, but maybe the resilience of the minion make this passive healing a bit high now)
- Lich form skills. (I’m part of the people that have radical though about Lich form since I relly dislike this transform skill and think that it would become something more valuable if it was rework into a non-transform skill. The same can be said for Plague but that’s not part of this thread)

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Whether or not it’s a viper horror or just normal MM, it makes high end fractals easy (2 man level 85 easy).

In my opinion No. And yes right now I am playing a Minion Master.

And I cannot think of a way to convince you or any other player otherwise. It is a simple fact different players play different ways – styles.
For example – I cannot stand PvP; to many years of WoW and Ultima Online has made me feel this way.

BUT I would the 1st one in line to fight/threaten to quit, etc. if the powers that be wanted to pull it from this game or make so you have to do PvP i.e. open world.

So my question if fellow necro-mm is having a what you feel is a too easy of a time who is it hurting?
If I am enjoying the game that I paid for is that the real whole point of these games?

Also minions are commonly used in necro tanking builds both pve , and pvp, they staying up when tanking is vital and they require alot of survivability to stay up while fighting a raid boss. They also have fixed the necro pet AI so there not as bad as they were before HoT. To me your argument just comes off as whining. Like boo hoo all professions are not evenly matched at everything. Well that to me is a good thing. part of a necros strength is swarming foes with there pets, its part of what makes a necro, a necro. As far as pets go, necro pets will never be individually as strong as ranger pets, but the strength of our pets is numbers, quality VS. quantity.

Are you sure pets are too strong or is it more you lack effective strategies in countering them?

P.S. this is my build :

Some classes are strong at A and weak at B, others are strong at B, weak at A and average at C. Points is class balance is not about literal equality. Its about playing to our strengths and other’s weaknesses, its about canceling each other out.

Now surely nobody would claim any class invincible or without a counter right?

Just have some tour across the Tyria and count MM necros you will met.
I think there would be much more MMs if they are so OP.
