Arenanet appear to be avoiding us. Hmph.
At this point I really don’t blame them.
We’re like a pack of rabid dogs that’s been locked away and have been let down like 3-4 times now, even the most of tame of us are irritated.
They would get jumped on.
Also it has become quite clear that they don’t really understand our class all that well, they probably are afraid of discussing our issues with us. Also considering we haven’t heard anything like “We know what’s wrong, what you need, and it’s coming”, so they probably don’t even know wth they’re going to do with us.
they have nothing to say because they have no idea what they want to class to do other than DS when they are about to die in order to buy time for the heal to come off the cooldown that we cant even see the timer of so we just pray to god that its back in time
I’m curious to know how they are honestly feeling about our opinions. If they agree with us that some (or all) of the changes suggested need to happen, I’d like them to say so. Or if they think everything is fine (hint: it’s not) I’d love for them to say “Knock it off guys, you’re going overboard”, just to know their stance on our situation.
Do they think we’re overreacting, do they have no clue what’s going on and what to do, or do they agree with us but are just afraid to say anything?

I think they’re siding with the top pvp’ers, where necro’s are being played because of epidemic. (Which I believe will be nerfed next patch)
Although most of the fixes and some suggestions I think they may actually agree with, but simply lack people to get it done, we still have SOOOO many bugs and they’re still not even touched. At this rate it’s going to take a WHOLE year from now before we’re even close to being fixed.
I try to stay relatively objective, but this last patch…damn what a slap in the face.
Our key complaints continue to be ignored in terms of bugs, and talents that are subpar. Furthermore, the amount of communication from the developers is extremely lacking. Add on top of that classes that are in decent shape, such as the mesmer, get detailed attention to their minions and we are left with that god-awful hairless rat that is the jagged horror.
Personally I think its time to play something else, as the lack of reasonable engagement from the developers is just not there.

oh my god… i thought i was the only one who thought this exactly >.>
my bad days don’t seem so lonely anymore
I’m in the same boat as you guys, it’s very disheartening to not hear from the Dev’s typically on anything here on the Necro forums. But at this point I’m honestly more interested in just having one take some time out and detail how the Devs feel our particular profession should be played or how they view us in general because as of now (I don’t know about the rest of you) I feel in the Dark. It honestly feels like we are the black sheep of GW2 at the moment as there seems to be little communication here other than the occasional thread that gets closed.
It’s strange, Jon Peters himself said he felt that there was a lot of condition removal in the current Meta and Necros didn’t have any solid power builds to turn to that might help compensate for this. He talks about wanting to introduce build variety. But I’m just confused as to why it seems that we are to be pigeon holed into condition builds. Which IMO is a bit strange because when playing condition build it is very hard to maintain a healthy pool of LF which in their eyes is the paramount of our profession. We lack variety as well as bugs that they never even to seem to acknowledge.
I would like to just hear from a Devs point of view, not to be negative or combative but just to be acknowledged because as of now it just doesn’t seem we are being heard.
I’m so very disappointed with the lack of changes. I might just put my necro, maybe even the whole game, on hold until some actually meaningful changes are implemented.
Not to derail this conversation, I’ve seen the necromancer bug post thread and I feel for you guys, I really do. Just adding some outside perspective from someone who doesn’t play necro, but hates going up against them…
Have you guys ever thought that maybe you are being viewed as a vocal minority? As a primary guardian/secondary thief/tertiary other stuff, I absolutely hate running into a Necro in WvW or sPvP. More often than not, most of the ones I encounter are either good enough to draw me into a stalemate, or GOOD enough to force me to retreat with my tail between my legs. I know I’m not the only one this happens to, my guild mates agree (except the one that plays necro, but he’s a slacker) and I’ve had plenty of people agree with me on reddit.
Maybe what it is is that they really don’t know what to do with the class, because on one hand they have in game data of necromancers working perfectly well, and they have a forum full of people saying they are broken and need to be fixed. Likely the truth is somewhere in the middle, and they just need time to fine tune a fix in a way that doesn’t break the class (overpowered/underpowered post patch).
Finally, to give you guys a glimmer of hope, if there are any GW1 players here, you’ll recall that they went through each class later in the life of GW1 and basically gave them a complete face-lift, going as far as to add new mechanics and what not. Given their move in that direction, I would expect to see them continue down that path in GW2 (and do so much earlier, given previous lesson’s learned), so don’t lose faith guys.

This is the issue.
Directly from the Developer post; Necomancers also have multiple movement disabling abilities, [which] allows them to chase down enemies who are low on health.
You, apparently, are not supposed to be able to get away from Necromancers easily. You either initiate and die, or you initiate and win, per what the Developers want us to be. As it is right now, you initiate and either kill us or get away safely because we have no means to catch anyone or anything.
This is why we are distraught. The whole vision of the Necromancer is up in the air, and nothing actually resembles what we’re hearing from the Devs. That is -really- not a good sign.
Thank you for basically solidifying our concerns from an outside perspective though. =/

Most of the necro players are good players. We can be a very hard class to kill. The issue is though, we have a lot of bugs, LF can be a complete pain for condition builds to replenish and really can be burnt though to quickly when used to soak those hits from other class’s, DS is kinda clunky, and in every build we can do almost nothing to stop anyone from getting away. Many of us remember gw1 very well and even selected this class because we remember our necro from gw1, we want our minions and vampire skills, etc again. They have changed things that no one really complains about even for the class, im looking at the fear/defiant change, Spectral walk was changed a few times already.
We have some good builds, but overall everyone is running the same builds over and over because they are the only ones that work. Most of us are not asking to buff the class but fix things like gluttony which is still not working, reanimator is still worthless (i want him to be optional or gone), vampire traits are so small its laughable, we have many traits and even utilities we will never use.
I know thieves have that 25% stealth thing that can cause them to unstealth which has caused me to see them sooner then i should and they still can get away. I know other class’s have issues as well with traits and skills but we have waited months on things for signets because most are a joke,, most minions do not work because the ai, traits. At one time we had soul reaping line not giving the bonus LF for what felt like ages before they fixed that. Anet should be working on fixing things not buffing or trying balancing things to everything is working right.
On a last note, thank you for the honest thoughts on the class.

I really am totally disheartened by all this. I thought for sure by now we would have some official words about….something, anything because keeping us in the dark about this is really detrimental to the people that play this profession and ultimately are customers. I know I have put my gem buying on hold for now (yes I actually buy gems with real money ) because I’m paying for a product I’m not receiving results on. I know they have their hands more than full right now and a million other things to fix too, all I’m asking for is something addressing these issues. Stop buffing the other classes that for the most part work just fine and start addressing the problems that lock us into a tiny corner of builds that are remotely viable for any kind of play not just pvp. A lot of this stuff affects pve players too.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
You guys just need to learn to death shroud.
Those who played the original GW should know that Anet has ALWAYS hated the necromancers. All classes (specially the elementalist and the mesmer which appears to be the sweetheart of Anet) were buffed over and over while the necros was nerfed most of the time.
In the 6 years I played, they were unable to fix some bugs (yes, IN 6 YEARS) and they never made it a good PvP class (unlike the mesmer who was always OP) and yes, we used to rule in PvE but mostly because the necromancer was played by good players and not for being OP (I tried all classes and all had a way or another to excel in PvE, even the Nighfall’s classes).
And this is only speaking of the original game. In GW2 where they seem only focused to attract or please WoW players (ridiculously OP Rogue/Thief for example) the panorama of the necro seem very dark.
So, in conclution, Anet ignoring or avoiding us is not new and if anyone is expecting some changes, well, you better take a seat.

Mr Guardian Who Doesn’t like Necros Sir.
Maybe you need to try a hammer instead of a greatsword when fighting a necro.
No stability, remember? Hello?
Most people aren’t saying “we’re so rubbish, we can never win fights, buff us now plox” we are saying “there are an incredible amount of broken traits, mechanics and skills which often leave us significantly unfairly disadvantaged, could we please get them fixed?”
To which the forums rarely receive a response, which when combined with patches that address absolutely non of the common concerns voiced here, understandably irritates people.

Lol wat? Were we even playing the same game? Nerfs? Some of the best Elite Skills were owned by the Necromancer. When was the last time they even touched SS? That skill has been one of the staples of Necro builds for 6 years and went almost completely untouched.
Then lets remember the sweeping changes to MM builds that occurred when Anet completely changed the functionality of Aura of the Lich and Masochism into not only useful skills, but amazing ones that would become staples to MMing. Then there were changes to skills like Barbed signet which I don’t recall ANYBODY complaining about, even after they had to give it a bit of a nerf after the initial change in functionality.
As for PvP, mind you I didn’t really touch on Random Arena’s or HA, but Necro Bombers in JQ and MM’s in FA were always some of the biggest threats posed to teams.
And yes, Mesmers were particularly deadly in PvP… if you knew how to play them. The twitch reflex’s required to play a Mesmer competitively is what made it so over powered. It was only powerful if a player could anticipate other players and react accordingly. They were entirely a punishment class.
Also, as a fun fact, did it ever occur to any of you that it seems like Anet never respond because the posts in which they do communicate with us get bumped to page two or three after 24 hours due to the huge quantity of ‘Anet haets necras’ threads that plague this forum? Seriously. They were talking with us just last week for crying out loud.
They were talking with us just last week for crying out loud.
You’re right, they were. It’s the quality of communication that we are lacking, not the quantity. Compare our last communication with Arenanet:
With the communication on this forum:
The difference between the two is breathtaking and [appears to] illustrate very well that Arenanet are more actively involved – and genuinely interested – with some professions more than others. I’d like to believe that this last statement is not true, however it’s hard to simply sweep examples such as the above aside.
Don’t worry, you guys aren’t the only one. They’ve been taking a crap on engineers since release. Both classes are in the same boat. They really seem to have a favoritism towards ever other class haha.
Have we had a real heart to heart discussion with devs before? Normally when they pop on its to say to settle down or be patient or “we’re working on it”, but i saw that thread on mesmer forums and i did kinda laugh to myself. Why can’t we have a constructive discussion like that once and awhile and like mentioned before…get an idea of how the devs think our class is working; sort out fact from fiction from what they maybe think is working and what actually isn’t.
I truely believe in large part…there is a divide on what is perceived to be working with the class and what isn’t. The view from players is likely night and day compared to the devs in their vision and or opinion of the class.
At the end of the day, it just bothers me to see the same skills broken or useless or untouched or patched when their OBVIOUS issues…its not even a matter of debate but simple X skill does not work/scale/path/etc properly, fix it.
Don’ tell me that necro is the only class that has non working skill in new CTF-style snow fight (when I try to use it I’ve got “content disabled” message). Sheesh.
I’ve played necro from the very beginning as MM. I’ve witnessed no changes and I have always waited for some improvement, something even temporary to make it better.
Golem charge is stopped by fierce 10 cm elevation, bone fiend’s skill never worked for me even on flat terrain. Most of my skills simply don’t work.
Yea, just another flame response, but after so much time when you get “Decreased the degeneration rate of Jagged Horrors” (Plural? I wish!) even lotos flower on a calm lake water can erupt with anger… 300+ hours of in-game waiting just to see that Anet’s priorities were to add 5% to effectivenes of one skill, decrease recharge rate of other by 2 seconds…
Nothing major, not even minor.
There is no bug fixes, just always very small balance pseudo-tweaks.
D@mn, please, have some surprise for necros…
(edited by Gizmo.8623)
you can either sit with a necromancer and die, or just know you’re going to die if you sense they’re pretty good and cc them once and run. they can’t close the gap if you get out of ds2 range.
Necromancers, we Engineers feel your pain…big time. i’ve tried necromancers and enjoyed it(mostly, until i realized my only ranged damage was going to come in the form of conditions, and i really don’t like using cliche setups) what exactly was changed for necro this time around?
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
As if to prove the point being made by this thread… Another profession asks and Arenanet responds. On a Sunday. Within two hours of the question being posted.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Serious-mesmer-tpvp-bug
Seriously, what do we have to do to get Arenanet to pay us any attention? The list of bugs we have is exhaustive and continues to be unacknowledged. Meanwhile, another profession has one issue which is acknowledged within two hours on the weekend?
I’m at a loss for words.
In response to the “mesmers got a post on a sunday,” I think it’s important to remember that the developers are people too, and are free to spend their free time however they wish. Responding to a post on a Sunday (not sure on time zones or anything) seems to suggest that someone somewhere enjoys spending their own spare time checking the mesmer forum once in a while.
That being said, it is also legitimately disappointing that it seems no one on the development side of things has that level of interest in the necromancer class.
Imagine how absolutely different our whole necro community would have evolved if someone had happened to— happened to, not mandated to— feel like spending time with us once in a while.

Hello Mr. Peters. Yes, I do master DS… wait, what?
Seriously, I did used SS a lot (mostly for farming) and yes, the +3 death magic was nice but AotL was way more powerful in his original form so yes, that change was a huge nerf (sorry if you never noticed but I guess you was too busy mastering SS).
And JQ? FA? Those were PvP in PvE enviroment (lots of dead NPCs) so the MM work great but you obviously miss the mesmer in JQ after the last “little” buff.
And Anet never respond because they don’t care. We already paid for the game so what? If we stop playing they lost nothing. There will be always a lots of costumers who just want easy and thats why they have the thief and the mesmer.
-ArenaNet
it’s simple if you get down to it, Necro’s are dirty satan worshipers and Anet put them in the game so that the player base would have a group to shun.

You’re actually calling them bugs still, and that’s where you are just simply wrong, necro’s don’t have bugs, everything is “working as intended” the class is just designed to be lame.
P.S. after 5 months not a single necro has mastered DS yet…so L2P.

The necromancer is in a slump because, as has been clearly shown this wintersday, Grenth has ABANDONED US!
/sarcasm
The main issue that’s been really maddening is the lack of fixes to simple, direct and clear bugs, such as bleeds inflicted by mark of evasion. Mark of evasion STILL inflicts only 2 bleeds, even after they altered the skill so it stopped being a blast finisher.
Well of corruption when traited to be ranged STILL has the incorrect icon.
Chillblains STILL has the wrong cast time when traited with greater marks (better than without but still a clear bug) and is the only mark that gets the correct targeting circle ( an obvious skill swap with the trait).
All these small problems that persist patch after patch, for months, are a pretty clear indication of neglect.
I want to see a new census about active lv80 classes, if ours and Engineers aren’t at rock bottom I’d be incredibly surprised.
I’m curious to know how they are honestly feeling about our opinions. If they agree with us that some (or all) of the changes suggested need to happen, I’d like them to say so. Once epidemic gets nerfed, those elite players would stop using necro. And with no feedback from them, the necro class would be forgotten altogether.
Same reason that Paragons in GW1 was bad and unpopular since the beginning, and were never fixed.

Necro Encyclopedia-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrAjJ1N6hxs
The thing that gets me is not the bugs etc, they are a symptom of the underlying issue which does get me. That is the total lack of concern for their paying necro customers. It can only be from contempt because you would not in all honesty treat valued clients like they treat necros. Even if they actually stated that all is as intended it would be better than the total silence about our profession and its issues. Indifference to any group has the greatest impact on morale and player commitment.
I put my refund ticket in this morning not know if it would go through or not, as I am outside the 60 day window. Just got confirmation that they would give me back the box price, which is nice.
I will give you this much ArenaNet. While your developers may not be on the ball your customer service department is.
