Not necessary together (though why not), how are these two weapons in PVE now? I just finished my reaper spec and I am gearing up now. I haven’t touched either of them since about level 20, and that was way before any of the changes. I’ve been so used to dagger/warhorn + staff (now dagger/warhorn + GS) that I’m curious because a change could be fun. So what’s everyone think, have these been improved at all and are they worth taking? I’m running a power build with soldiers/zerk and focusing on end-game content.

I currently use both of them with my reaper/GS spec as my ranged weapon. The auto attack is still god awful, but axe two combined with focus four is a really solid LF generator. These two skills also spike decently hard. I use both to get back into reaper shroud quicker.

As far as ranged weapons go, its axe or staff, and both are lack luster for range DPS if you’re power based. No other real options.

Post-buff, the Axe isn’t bad. Not spectacular, not really worth using as your primary weapon, but it can be a decent option if you need to disengage and fight from the heel for a while. It’s a bit better for Reaper than for the base Necro since otherwise you don’t really have any ranged damage (the Staff is a strong utility weapon but its damage is lacking).

I personally like Focus, but it’s probably not as strong as the Warhorn overall. Still, it’s not a bad choice either. The 1v1 burst and Vuln stacking of 4 is very strong and 5 is amazing if your opponent has a lot of boons.

Actually, Axe 2 doesn’t give you much of a DPS boost, if any. I’ve done a bunch of testing in Heart of the Mists and the time-to-kill isn’t all that different whether you’re mixing Axe 2 into the mix or just spamming Axe 1. You get a big single number that looks good, but between the wind-up, the channel time, and the aftercast, your actual total damage dealt ends up almost the same.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.
