I have a necro I made for pve when game came out. I literally know nothing about the current state of necros.
I would really love to be able to solo roam like I do on my warr/ranger. so mobility is an issue, what wep sets to use, runes, sigils, armor the whole nine yards.
I like being able to take multiple foes at once, a good mix of both dmg and survivability.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I hated literally everything about roaming with a Necro until I finally just relented and specced Dhuumfire. Also recommend Traveler runes, even for condition focused toons.
Rabid/dire armor, sigils of earth/torment. S/d and staff.
Condition or MM, but necro is so slooooow for roaming, absolutely no chance to escape fight, you will fight to death every single time.
Agree with everyone else here. Dhuumfire Conditionmancer, Rabid Gear, Earth or Torment Sigils, with BoP, SoS and Epidemic usage, can melt camps in seconds and with ease. Melts pretty much anything in WvW actually. MM is good too.
Your going to have to stand and fight as mentioned, since you’re mobility is just speed boosts (I Swap a utility out for SoL while OOC and running around). Good news is that Rabid Conditionmancer and MM are really good at killing people in 1v1s to 1v3s depending on the classes you go up against of course.

MM is Minion Master. Basically summon as many minions as you can and let them do all the work.
Condition is well conditions, normally Staff and Scepter/x Could take Warhorn for the cripple, swiftness and the daze. Off hand Dagger is also a option as well.
If anyone had a build that was calculated out so i could get an example that would be most helpful.
From personal experience. Minion Master is quite strong in even 2v1 situations. I usually take poison nova… It’s funny to watch a warrior run up and try to 100b my minions, suddenly 3k 3k 3k 3k 3k and a minute and a half of poison XD

My old one used to be something like this. Though i have since restarted my Necro as a different race so it might be totally rubbish now.
The corruption Sigil used to be swapped out once 25 stacks was obtained.

Not really optimal (I think) since I was testing out a torment build and just stuck with it, but this is basically a full out Rabid Conditionmancer. Just change out utilities skills, runes, sigils and 10 trait points to what you think is best for any given time. The utilities I have up are for melting camps/sentries ASAP by casting SoS, then BoP, transfering self bleed over, using staff or scepter skills quickly followed by an Epidemic. By the time you switch weapons, heal (which adds more torment on my build) and use Tainted shackles + Life Transfer, everything in the camp should be dead except supervisor (but not far behind).
What do you think of the Torment Sigil, i mean its only 1 stack, doesnt seem like it would really do THAT much damage to make it worthwhile in Solo/small group situations.
I am guessing it does around 700ish damage? about 1500 if they move during whole duration.
Honestly it isn’t a good sigil vs. one target compared to say Sigil of earth which is much better for single targets. The strength of the torment sigil is that its an area of effect. That means when fighting multiple players or NPCs, you don’t need to worry about where your sigil crit is to epidemic. The extra torment applies to everyone making for easier widespread application. I was suprised to find how useful this was against groups of enemies especially when they’re running around.
In combination with Torment runes you get 3 extra stacks of area Torment that last for about 18-20 seconds and act as cover for bleeds, extra DPS and avoids condition caps. With Epidemic and CD crossover (since the ICD on Torment Sigil is 8 seconds), you can keep 3-6 stacks of area torment up for most of a fight.
Regardless it’s just an experimental thing I was testing and haven’t bothered to really change it. Just wanted to post a general conditionmancer build andleave runes/sigils up to the reader.
So the torment rune set adds another stack? or it just lasts longer to make it do as much damage as 3 stacks?
Just 1 stack, that lasts for some 16 seconds on 7 second ICD (checked in game to get the exact ICD of 7 seconds and base torment duraton which is 8 seconds). So there’s a possible overlap of about 9 seconds. If you were to just auto attack with say scepter, every 7-8 seconds your going to have 2 stacks of Torment just from the Sigil for roughly a 9 second window. With Epidemic, you can get an extra 1-2 stacks off those for a total of 3-4 torment stacks.
With Consume Conditions usage you get another 2 stacks of area Torment for 20 seconds on a 25 second recharge. In combination with the sigil, you can get an 3-4 initial stacks of torment that can be proliferated with Epidemic into 6-8 stacks.
Add in Tainted Shackles (3 stacks of 21.5 sec torment) before using Epidemic and you can have 6-7 initial stacks and 12-14 with Epidemic (in an ideal scenario), with half of them running the full 16-20 seconds and the other half being around 6-10 seconds in duration.
Hard to pull that off vs. players, but much easier to perform against guard in camps etc. while roaming. Faster they go down, the more like you’re going to cap. It’s also funny when NPCs work against defenders in camps by unloading conditions on said NPCs and using epidemic to transfer perfect condition spikes to unsuspecting players.
So, I know I have a skewed view but…
It may not be the best solo roaming build but the most fun solo roaming build IMO is a berserker 30/10/0/0/30 build
What is fun?
1. Compared to s/d staff builds, it feels much less spammy
2. With the current focus on condi necros, enemies don’t expect it
3. It really utilizes death shroud
4. Using wh, spectral walk and training spectrals, I have close to 100% swiftness uptime
5. It is not the “best” build so when you die, you can use that as an excuse

Thanks for the rundown on the Sigils/Runes of Torment. I was thinking about running these things but I’ve experimented with my build so much lately that I’ve gone a bit broke (not to mention I’m running out of storage space for all my gear). I liked the idea of adding another cover condition but wasn’t convinced that it was worth it. The effects sound interesting.

Why Perplexity? You dont have that much that can proc the 6/6, Maybe the Warhorn but cant think of anything else.

Spectral Grasp works too.
Perplexity is the best damage option even if you only get 5 runes + 1 crest/jewel. Scavenging nets better defense with some extra healing.
However, I disagree that Dhuumfire condi builds are “the best” for roaming, they’re just the easiest to get decent results with.
