So I’ve tried and deleted a necromancer at least a couple of times by now because I can’t seem to find a build that I like very much while leveling, I most recently tried minions, at got to level twenty something, but while playing it seemed like the minion AI was broken because sometimes the shadow fiend or the two little minions wouldn’t attack what I was attacking, they would get in the enemy’s face and then sit there. Basically I’m looking for some help, maybe some early build suggestions for leveling up and some tips on necromancer mechanics.

Yeah the Minion AI can be a little off in the clouds.

How are you planning the level up however? I would assume PvE (In which case I wouldn’t be much help I prefer PvP so hopefully someone else will come along and help.) but it’s better to be sure.

Though I believe you now get Consume Conditions as your standard heal when you roll a new Necromancer which would have been great before they added the 10 stacks of Vulnerability to it’s cost. I would suggest swapping this probably for Signet of Vampirism because it will get better later with traits and at least it heals you through Deathshroud in passive and won’t hurt you to cast it for the bigger heal.

I remember the moment that it clicked and didn’t suck anymore was when I learned that staff 3 → staff 4 was a blast combo. So I would pull a few people get an aoe blast then use death shroud. Leveling is definitely the time to try every kind of build and see what stuff you like. But I think dagger/warhorn makes it easier. Having some form of swiftness helps, and dagger AA are our strongest. So basically take any armor with power on it.

Taking signet of locust is great too for the passive move speed around the maps. After trying minions and finding them lack luster I leveled 35-80 almost exclusively as condition damage. Epidemic just feels great on mobs.

Hope that helps! I think there’s a lot that goes into loving a character. For me the aesthetics of necromancer helped me when I wasn’t particularly feeling the class.
