I’ve always favored the axe
It depends on your build. I actually think Axe overall is going to give you better results in a tanky setup because A/F is huge vuln stacking, pretty much 100% cripple uptime, plus retal and a decent damage spike with Axe 2.
this is the biggest problem for me
the choice between A/F and D/D.
A/F – good vulnerability stacking, regen, chill, cripple, retaliation and de-boon skills
D/D – blindnes, weakness, immob and a bit of extra healing
if not good in pure melee then choose A/F
In sPVP I would use dagger/warhorn in PVT gear. Use superior statistical bulk to engage opponents at point blank range, locking them down and letting the minions pile all at once.
But the 2nd dagger skill is a lifesaver in critical situations !

in tpvp while using a necromancer, you won’t need to worry about have a dual dagger set due to fetid consumption, and consume condition, plus shadow fiend’s blind as opposed to deathly swarms. here check out the build thread i just posted.. and i you have any questions, ask me in game.

I run dagger/focus…
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I prefer Axe/Warhorn. I find retaliation is a must. D/D didn’t improve my survivability at all. The movement lockdown was useless against so many people, due to skills or immunity, that I gave it up. The dagger 5 took so long to use that many of the buffs I wanted to remove timed out before the skill finally worked (often because of control effects). I was kited to death many times, unable to chase down my target to get it in range of auto attack. I’m thinking about giving Scepter/Warhorn a try, but for now I’m going to have to say A/W + Staff ftw.
Axe/focus. Both alone are clunky, telegraphed weapons that tend to be very annoying to use in any challenging fight. However, with minions to block your enemies, they become much more manageable.
Axe is very good because MM have to invest in spite tree, so take 10 more for axe training and stack vul/axe skills while minions tank for you.
Offhand, focus is strong, since regen on your minions can be helpful.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
