I’ve been browsing the threads on the first few pages and didn’t see a thread that I felt addressed my specific question. Can anyone recommend a spec for a WvWvW duo? I play primarily with my brother, a mesmer. Our typical roaming circuit finds fights versus other small groups of 1-4 players. Our assisting is pretty solid too (if that moves away from an aoe build to single target build that’s fine too). Open to anything people think works great.

As I level, I am playing with the vulnerability + blind wells, signet of power, staff and axe + warhorn. But as we know, PvE power doesn’t necessarily translate into WvWvW flexibility and power. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I would heavily recommend switching your build and utilities for duo roaming. Since you`re roaming with mesmer (stealth & ports) you will be focused nonstop, therefore I recommend standard Dhuumfire (30-20-0-0-20) with S/D and staff for first steps as it provides brutal damage, suffient toughness and okayish synergies when your mesmer friend is running condition or hybrid build (epidemic).

Additionally you want to have at least one stunbreaker and temporary swiftness to reliably escape overwhelming numbers. Spectral Walk would cover both.

From my experience duo roaming together with mesmer is doable but not the most satisfying combination since he is able to take fights you cannot, due to his multiple escape options. It`s either he can only take half the fights of what he would be able to do without you or you will die half of the fights while he is able to disengage. Another point is, that he is not passively supporting you through boons, which would make life much easier for you.

Best synergies with necro in my opinion are classes that have to stay infight with you until the fight is over, depending on player skill I made the best experience with offensive boon guards (stability, aegis and protection) or melee shout rangers (perma-swiftness, perma-regen and high fury uptime).

Hope it helps, good luck and have fun roaming!

If you’re used to running staff + axe/wh you could take a look at my build.
Overall I don’t have any preference when it comes to roaming partners as long as they are able to pull their own weight. Like Moon said, some mobility professions create less obvious synergy with necros than others (like boon sharing), but they often turn out to be reliable peelers, stompers or rezzers.
In my experience it comes down to the player rather than the class anyway.
As to the necro build, you’ll be fine with any solo roaming build.
Your main group support: damage, that’s the necro’s role atm. Stay alive and do damage. So don’t worry about helping others too much other than letting them stay in your wells and marks (or Plague).

I love the mesmer necro combo when it comes to conditions. It is one of my favorite combos (just short of the old spirits/ranger build back when they had 100% uptime). You get focused yes, but you get focused with any other partner against decent players anyhow.

A power mix for those two in my opinion is going to be rough. You will have to play tanky, which means your damage is going to be weak. He on the other hand will have to go zerker or close to it to have enough damage output to bring people down. This will make the outnumbered fights really tough.

Without epidemic to swing the fights back in your favor with that surprise burst of conditions, its going to be an uphill fight.

I do lots of Duo roaming if you are curious and want to see how conditions play in that setup, you can follow my link below to some videos… I didn’t devote an episode to that particular duo arrangement, but I some fights that showcase how fast the confusion stacks up because of the mesmer.
