Best spec/gear for wvw roam
This is a variation of a solo roamer hybrid build i worked on for someone who requested it alittle while back.
The idea is to burst down opponents with heavy passive bleeding from the Sigil and your Barbed Precision trait which do 10 and 2 second bleeds respectively. Whilst having 50% critical chance and 56% damage in only a mixture of Zerker and PTV gear your not giving up any damage that wont be dealt passively.
Hitting the 100% condition duration cap opens up alot more plays with Barbed Precision, Dark Path and most importantly Dark Pact allowing you to Dagger 3 > Dagger 5 > DS in & out > Dagger 1 stacking at least 10 bleed stacks before the immobilize has even worn off.

This is the build I’m aiming for:
Currently testing it with exotic instead of Ascended trinkets and I love it. Bleeds tick for 84 and I reached Dagger and Axe #2 as high as 6k, Lifeblast 3-4k on 80. At 21% damage reduction the survivability is good too. 100% condition is also a great thing to have.
I’ll post a new video this week to show the playstyle and some numbers, it’s really fun to play.

To be honest, whatever works best for the armour you will be using. Example if your looking for Critical Chance build into Knights and benefit from the Toughness or if your looking for Critical Damage build into Valkyries and benefit from the Vitality.
Necromancers have the luxury of choosing between both as Vitality scales directly with Deathshroud for the same HP that you would get from Effective Health from Toughness (as long as you know how to use or “master” Deathshroud as a certain developer would say).

Like Ascii said, It’s pretty much a personal choice, I’m having an harder time against physical damage (thiefs) than conditions, so Toughness is a must for me. Our high health pool also make that choice less risky.

I’ve been having lots of success with a terror/condi build, full rabid gear.
1h rabid staff of corruption (stack condition damage on kill) and the other a
berserker’s dag/horn with hydromancy (chill on swap) and rage (10% quickness on crit) respectively.
30 curses with III (Chilling Darkness) , VI (Terror) & XII (Weakening Precision)
20 Death Magic with II (Greater Marks) & VIII (Reaper’s Protection)
20 Soul Reaping with I (Fear of Death) & VIII (Master of Terror)
I tend to agree with Panhauramix, we have a high base health pool which let’s us soak up a bit (not a whole ton) of damage and toughness really helps dampen the blow against strong bursting classes, but if you play your cards right in this build you can see a lot of ways to disable your opponents. It has tons of effective CCs.
I’ve pulled in 100 badges in a couple hours with this build.
Fear is really powerful! I’ve seen this tick for easily 1k. With a full condi duration build and necromancer runes, you can double those ticks, very effective. don’t forget your food buffs tho, you’ll be downing super veggie pizzas like no tomorrow.
Going full rabid for roam is strong? you wont suffer the lack of power?
Condition mancers go full rabid + undead runes to max their condition damage and bleed stacks with Barbed Precision and Sigil of Earth.
But imo it’s definitely not the strongest a necromancer can be. The lack in power is very noticable.
You could go full rampager’s instead if you really want to crank up your damage, but you’ll only be able to do so much with this glassy gear.
I run a staff-condition-build that inherently makes less use of precision than any scepter build would. Therefore my gear is a mix of carrion and soldiers = high damage and tanky.

Yeah, I could use more power for the dagger but I find crit damage balances nicely with precision.
I have tried a lot of builds and I just like the way this one works, more CCs and the fear tick is stupidly strong when you stack your con damage. people don’t expect a necro to be able to lash out a total of 12khp in fear alone. I haven’t dumped the 2k hours in the game I could have but I enjoy the hours I do put in. I don’t ever feel like my class is kitten and if I get bored I always have a new build to try.

The problem with many opponents is that you’ll have to fight to the death every time. There is no stealth or Ride the Lightning for you, so you’ll literally have to fight all of your opponents at the same time instead of picking them off one by one.
The choice of armor doesn’t improve your chances here, except maybe get some vitality in there as well. More opponents usually means more conditions on you, and with that pure rabid doesn’t help.

But if I stick to the zerg my enemies won’t realize it was me who killed them!

I’ll add that with every set-up, there’s an appropriate counter for any build… I have fun with my build, it’s not boring. No, I don’t have stealth or ride the lightning, those are skills on, you guessed it! other classes i’m not playing.
This set up is meant to play with a team, not solo, and if you’re soloing as a necro in WvW you’re dead, we just can’t pick off people quite like a thief.
honestly? let I let my kills come to me, they think i’m easy picking because of the standard excuse “I’m a necrooooo i can’t play like an ele wah wah this class is kitten”

Hey guys, as the title of topic, i want some suggestion with the gear/spec for solo roam in wvw. I know that for roam necro is not the best class, so avoid statement about that, thanks all in advance.
I think i want to try some sort of hybrid build, so some suggestion are welcome.

Also… it’s just not true. Solo roaming is very doable as a necro, if you think you are easy prey for more than one opponent then that is clearly not the right build for it.
my bad, i must have skimmed over that vital word. SOLO. But you’re probably right, it’s not a solo build really (more along hybrid). taking on multiple foes I find it lacks bursting power to take some foes down(say if you’re fighting 4 or so) which is why I took the dagger, it helps when foes close in to hammer them down. what it is good at is surviving against multiple foes so if you have a buddy closeby or run back to zerg…, but then I had more support in mind when i posted.
I’ll have to think a bit about what I would use to solo roam.
edit: looking back I still feel the same way about playing in WvW (I’ve never had much luck soloing), and so my comments have been a bit misplaced, but for what it’s worth, fear is a great utility condition that works as an interrupt, with this build it more or less plays like a condi build, but you have a more powerful CC. You can clear(and transfer) your conditions with staff 4 and your healing skill. It is possible to kill 2-3 easily people, with some careful placement of your skills. As your fear when you go down (fear of death) (and fear on being disabled) will fear everyone around you for 3 seconds (the latter is single target i think), or a hefty 6 with all runes/buffs in place. that’s 6k damage they can’t do anything about. The trick is applying pressure steadily, condition damage, stuns, fears, jumping into DS to absorb attacks… and putting the hurt on when they are running) these are some examples of the application of fear and I would still recommend giving a fear build (maybe not the one I had suggested…) a shot for soloing. best of luck out there! Also, if you really want to have fun, corrupt boon when they have stability on and watch as their life runs out. (stability corrupts to fear)

Rabid type is very strong condition if target can’t clean our condi they die suffer.
Rabid type good for melt victim HP by condition b-cos you have Condi/pre/tough.
Stay strong when fight don’t panic when VS someone class.
Good on rabid is strong condi very nice tough can stand long fight can tag DoT condition to drain victim offen and bleed them death.
(My rabid set 127bleed per tic I think not enough for me I must try need new food and crystal but I have no money xD)
Prob on rabid type is can’t do direct DMG/Brust or end fight in shot time.
(Ex.use2or3skill and make 2hit enemy down no rabid can’t do this.)
my god i just can’t find a good necro build for roaming, if you go power you NEED to wellbomb to burst them down meaning daggers are a must for skill 3 (not that id use axe anyway)
pls anet buff this dam class.
Ive been thinking about a cond build with full rabid with maybe spec walk/spec grasp/corrupt boon, not sure on the traits yet but surely epidemic can’t be THAT needed for every cond build.
edit: was thinking of adding more cond duration bc even though it get’s cleansed so easily having longer duration allows you to build it to higher stacks faster
edit2: which also means id need to use whorn to maintain 100% uptime on swift so how would that compare with offhand dagger
ok so points about the build
-high mobility with swiftness for roaming
-high bleed duration for quicker bleed stacks
-no need for dagger so wont have to aim skill 5 (sometimes annoying)
-has corrupt boon for anyone stacking boons/spectral grasp for anyone wanting to run away + swarm to lock them down with cripple
last edit: I STILL NEED TO TEST THIS BUILD OUT, I have only theory crafted it in the pvp zone.
