Q:
Boon duration, Condi, Specializations?!
If I understand things right, it will be removed from trait lines and distributed on gear instead.
From the blog post about Specializations:
Where Did My Trait-Line Stats Go?
We feel that separating build choices from stat decisions provides greater build flexibility, so you’ll no longer gain attribute points through a given line. Where will these stats go? Here’s a quick summary:
- Base player stats will be increased from 926 to 1000.
- Base attribute points on equipment will be increased so that all the gear in the game will give higher stats than it did before. This should account for most of the missing points.
- Each profession’s attributes will be updated to have half of their functionality be part of a specialization and half of their functionality will be a baseline for that profession. For example, elementalists now have a base attunement recharge of 10 seconds, which is reduced to 8.7 seconds when the arcane specialization is equipped.
These changes should keep the total stat numbers roughly the same as they were before, even though you’ll get them from different places. In addition to these changes, the need to unlock skills and traits will be removed from Player vs. Player entirely, and you’ll automatically have all the specializations available to you whenever you’re in PvP.
I know it doesn’t mention the bonuses specifically, but one would assume they include them. Alternatively, they haven’t decided yet and therefore intentionally left them out.
They can do 2 things: include condition/bonn duration in the specific armor set (condition duration in carrior and rabid and boon duration in soldier and cleric, for example) or make new armors that provide that bonus, forcing you to chose that set to increase your condition duration, making you lesser defensive, just like Ferocity for direct damage. And that will help the balance between direct damage and condition damage builds.

Personally I’m hoping they do the later and make boon/condi duration stuff be it’s own gear.
I say that because if you look at stats +30% boon or condition duration is the = of + 600 stat points.
Simply tossing the +boon/condi duration onto gear that already has stats on it will mean said stats will need to be lower then zerker gear would be.
This will give players more options for min/maxing.
Or they will create / modify runes and food where there are already many options.

i don’t want my stats dependent on food and having to slap money around all the time because i need the stat boost to survive or dish out damage. That should not be the case at all. Having modifiers in foods is one thing, but to have stats completely dependent on food is ridiculous and a huge money sink. Duration should be added to gear period, if they are not going to increase the baseline to make up for the 30% decrease in stats due to trait lines.
It won’t just be on food unless they are going to allow food in pvp.

Just from reading this, it does not make sense to infer that our armor would get boon duration. Simply, that they would increase the stats already on armor to make up for the disappearance from our traitlines.

I personally hope boon duration stays on the Death line, and Condi duration stays on spite or gets moved to curses (maybe).
