for starters dont expect thief burst damage go for a knights amulet so you can make a mistake or two without instantly dying.

points go into spite curses and soul reaping mostly for secondary weapon use a staff (if staff is your choice go 10 deathmagic for greater marks)or an axe expect to switch weapons a lot to be viable.

learn how to use deathshroud and its abilitys in the mist for elite.. go either lich or flesh golem both are good options. and for skills id say go either spectral or well specced if well specced put some points into bloodmagic to get the shortage of cooldowns on wells

Necros don’t really have burst. The best we can do is Death Shroud. Go for power, crit, and vitality/toughness traits as the +30% life force bar for 30 points in soul reaping is currently broken and gives 0% bonus with 30 points.

Get the trait that gives fury when entering DS, the trait for might when casting Life Blast, and possibly the trait to give retaliation when entering DS. You can crit for about 3.5k with life blast, and I think around 4k with Life Transfer

I specced my necro full power/crit in pvp. Must say I’m having a blast!
Life blast crits for 4-5k, and it almost always crits. Dagger autoattack crits for 3k every 3rd attack. Everything does high damage, granted it’s not over 6k instant damage, but it’s very sustained damage with high number and actually very good survival. High base hp and death shroud are a good defense.

We do not have burst damage as a warrior or thief has, we have sustained damage whether it be from our bleed conditions or even our direct damage from our other skills like wells and daggers. We do not ninja in hit someone for 15k then leave before someone can fight back or even do anything about it.

Life blast hitting for 4-5k is ok but its slow, can be avoid and has a cast time making it even annoying to use for a 4-5k hit. We have to have life force to use the skill and its consumes life force making it so we have less time in DS. With dagger skills as well we have to be really close to get them to work, decent damage but 3k every 3 attacks on a target does not make its good, but decent sustained damage.

Now nerco’s can do pretty mean with our damage but targets have to stay in wells to get the full effect, or roots and chills help alot. Skill 4 of DS is also nice since it has good range and hits hard for a aoe like it has and restores life while being used, life blast on the other hand is not as good for how it works. Dark path is nice as well since we can teleport to a target, drop out of DS lay our two wells for very nice damage or even do other setups.

You get a ton of sustained from dagger. Go full berserkers for full effect, you have so much health that it really doesn’t matter.

Use dagger/dagger and staff to build LF at superspeed rates. Switch to DS and launch your 1 until 50% is left. You should crit for something like 4-5k per hit. Not very high but sustainable.

As a necro it’s physically impossible to do the burst that thief has because thief is just so faceroll. You’ll have to actually play to do good sustain.

I’ve gotten moderately good results with Dagger/Focus + Staff, using Spectral Grasp, Well of Suffering, and Signet of Spite for utilities and Litch Form for Elite. Spec for Mark damage and dagger cooldowns.

Drop your marks, Grasp the mob into ‘em, bind and drop the well, pop the signet, reaper’s touch and shivers. By now they’ve got 15-19 vulnerability, and just slice their face off with auto attack.

I was actually surprised by how effective this was, TBH, but with the current state of necros I was literally just putzing around to see what worked.

have to be super careful with the grasp though. wont go over anything, up or down hills, over water… basically if you’re on a flat surface with nothing around you, you might hope for the best :P

I was also stacking power mainly in this gear – only level 77, though, and have been replacing my gear about 3 times a day as I level, so I’ve just been taking whatever i came across cheap.

I also found Dagger/Dagger to be kinda fun, but settled on dagger/focus when I started getting good vulnerability built up so fast, which really helped burn through HP with dagger 1.

You can also throw in a bind/ dagger 2 for giggles, which can hit for a surprising amount if you can channel through the whole thing, but is a total waste if sombody so much as sneezes in the vicinity and you end up only doing like 100 damage ._. I use it solely for damage as the life regen on it is a joke. (with vulnerability stacked a full channel can hit for almost 2k at level 75)

I am still wishing I had a nice strong finisher – nothing I miss more from WoW than popping conflagrate on fleeing DoT’d victims on my Warlock. sigh
