I wouldnt saya necros are as bad as some are trying to picture them. My current pvp build which is basically life leaching one ( d/d main , a/f secondary, clerics jew ) is paying off in solo tournaments very well.

I have enough Healing Power to outlive glass cannon burst + boon corruptor/epidemic gives me great chance against bunkers. Lich form is awesome if u see a bigger fight so u can jump straight into and cause some sirious damage.

On the other hand i wont say necros are at good state. We have lots and lots of flaws and poorly designed mechanics.

BUT its not that you cant play or win with necro , it just takes more practice. Out of 55 tourneys played i have 38 wins now. Aint perdect score but not worst one either.

And most importantly i enjoy playing necro

P.S my pvp competentions spreads over 6 classes and over 500 matches so i have a vague clue of whats the situation.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

What I don’t understand, is in a game whos primary defense mechanic is mobility (which necromancers have next to none of), how people can blindly defend not having it and still expect other people not to see you as weak. I mean why do you think people focus necromancers in tPvP? It sure as hell isn’t because people think we’re “strong” and need to be put down ASAP. I purposefully single out necromancers on my thief and warrior, not because I’m afraid of what they can do, but because to me they are nothing more than a free kill. They have the least amount of stun breaks, they have no mobility to speak of, and their class defining feature is to face tank all of my damage. Damage I have no problem pumping into them faster than they can deal with.

This ^. The only 1v2 scenario’s I hate to be in but prefer above others while playing my guardian, is ones involving necromancers. Depending on how the other guy reacts to me focusing down the necromancer, I will decide if he is worth fighting after the necromancer is down or dead. Of course underestimating a necromancer can backfire if he’s actually a good necromancer (I try to abuse this tendency often on my own necro), but being a necromancer myself does wonders to prevent this.

The simplest way to put it OP, is that you will have to pick up the game again yourself and try out various things on the necromancer. I’ve decided to tone back my build experimentation until anet’s theories start holding more weight in the actual game.

Lol, I mean at the very least make Jagged Horror considered a “minion”.

Uh… it is? It is affected by all minion traits, to my knowledge, and has the same AI.

And a tinsy bleed. :P

On other note… kev and cold he already pretty much stated his math> every other variable imaginable and he helped everyone and their sick gramma so his opinion is superior. You two are just arguing with a wall. I won’t blindly side with a forum superstar because he helped someone.
On side note nobody ever said profession was horrendous. Point was it was not as fun as it should and fundamentally lacking in more areas then not and everyone who defends it does so with bizzare 1 sided scenarios and high numbers like they mean something past being a number. Or the all too common youtube links of ganking underleveled people… The occasional claims of someone being “vet”, “pro” etc and going as far as acception a proposal to duel a thief etc with their super mega unkillable necro were proven how very wrong they were.

Necros still suck. Not much has improved on them just a few bug fixes but the major issues still haven’t been fixed

Necro doesn’t “suck” on the battlefield. But you can argue that it is unrelated to its GW1 version at all, and it can at times be boring to play.

Someone please lock this thread.

Everyone admits that Necromancer is really good in some situations and average or below in other situations. There is nothing wrong with this. It is part of the profession’s play style and there are a remarkable number of builds that actually work, or perhaps there is no single OP build. Either way, play to your advantages while acknowledging the job’s limitations.

All I really want for changes are…
… a Spectral bunker build that sacrifices damage output for durability and healing to make the Necromancer the ultimate punching bag (perhaps as intended by the dev’s,)
… our own special condition that other jobs do not have, even if the condition does virtually no damage,
… and an effective Signet build.

The rest of my desires are just tweaks to things like cool-downs. I have no issues at all with playing Necromancer as a support job in groups and the minions are awesome regular PvE. The profession is not perfect but it is not OP and in need of a nerf to a particular build, nor is it broken and unplayable. It is merely different.

Why would they do that? This thread has a lot of varying view points, and for the most part, all the discussions were civil. Isn’t that the point of a forum?

Vitality-based spectral bunker builds exist already, they are just rare because no one sees the Necromancer as a bunker class, even if it works.

It would be nice (it is what fear was supposed to be).

Signet builds don’t work very well in general; passive effects will never be strong enough for Necromancers (who are so dependent on utility skills), and their actives don’t provide enough cohesive benefit to warrant a build. They need some fixes, but will always likely remain niche utilities to fit into other builds.

We have a viable bunker build? What is it? I’d be very interesting in trying it out.

It depends on what you are planning to bunker. I believe the Juggermancer (or w/e they are called) are bunker builds, Nemesis has a video guide if I remember correctly.

The main types I can think of right now are vitality-DS builds, the above mentioned type of builds, minion based bunkers, and then healing ones. I can’t say if they would work for zergs in WvW, but I have successfully bunkered in PvP, and in PvE its actually possible to bunker with rampager gear (power/precision/condition damage) using a lot of siphoning.
