I think many of us can agree that Deathly Chill solved some of the problems Necromancers have had for a long time, especially in SPvP, namely low intensity and long duration Condition application (mainly Bleeding) and lack of a more immediate impact Condition like the old Burning.

In a PvE and Raid perspective it was also a great trait since it was very smooth to apply in a DPS rotation, giving e.g. BiP into Deathly Swarm (with Chilling Darkness) a nice touch.
The pretty good might scaling increased the damage when having full Raid buffs, and it also did not intrude with weapon usage (like Dhuumfire, better to sit in Scepter than going for RS1/DS1 to use Dhuumfire).

So to solve this issue in the future, we can propose some alternatives:

  • Increase 1 stack 8 s Bleeding, to X stack 8 s Bleeding
  • Change 1 stack 8 s Bleeding, to X stack X s of another condition (like torment)
  • Replace this feature with some other trait or skill

So how can we replace the feature? We already have those traits, it’s just that they are terrible. Mainly Dhuumfire and Terror. This is the perfect time to change these traits into being viable, filling the gap left by Deathly Chill.
Improve these 2 traits and Condition Necromancers might not be that terrible.

I would love to see them increase the stacks or change the conditions, but they won’t because RS5 and RS4 exist. Why do you think RS4 also got nerfed?

I’d say give it 2 stacks of torment, and figure out a decent duration for them, probably 8s (since they don’t get a lot of +duration). Torment doesn’t exist on Reaper, enforces the anti-movement theme of Reaper and Chill, and diversifies our damage a little bit better, while still allowing stacking.

Probably because somewhere in this entire pvp forum there probably was a post whining about RS4 applying too much bolts and the devs listened to it.

Not gonna happen. The whole purpose of this patch was to depopulate the necro class. If they could, they would choose to delete the class in its entirety.

After some math and consideration, I think a trait such as:
“Tainted Ice: Inflicting Chill also inflicts 2 stacks of Poison for 6(to seconds.”
Is the best route. It reduces the required chill application to break even every 8 seconds from about 5 to around 2.5 which is more reasonable, I find. And with the reduction of chill duration and loss of utility in that sense, the added poison would give back a bit of utility and give more Poison to the necromancer, a niche it should also be fairly heavy in, in my opinion.

So that’s my current thoughts as I consider things.
