Reaper has some pretty nice choices for traits. One that has been eating at me is tier 1. Do you all feel it’s worth giving up CDR for shouts for the nova?

Not if you are taking lots of shouts. Only time I would trade for Chilling Nova is PvE on a build that doesn’t need the CDR on shouts, and probably only has one-two shouts (which is all PvE would use probably).

It isn’t a bad trait, it can be nice for adding burst, and chill application on builds that don’t have a lot of that. Most of the time in pvp you will want either shout cds, or the -33% movement impairing conditions though. Those are both more useful in most cases. In pve, I would say you pretty much always want chilling nova unless your running 2+ shouts.

Necros don’t have reflects, invulns, vigor, blocks,
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.

I used it while I didn’t have enough Hero Points to buy all my shouts. Soon as I got 2 shouts other than the heal, I went back to Augury.

I’d almost prefer it not have the requirement of chill being present to proc, just so I felt like it did more than just an aoe auto attack.

Is the filler trait in PvE when you don’t run too many shouts. Honestly it is fairly ignorable, if I ever find myself running 2+ shouts then is augury. I do wish this one is a bit better though, the ICD is a bit long honestly.

Right now, my best guess for why to take Chilling Nova and maybe Runes of the Reaper is if you are using a condition damage build and trait Deathly Chill. Then, more chills give more damage so perma-chill on everything within reach makes sense.

Isn’t “chill inflict damages” tied to Power?

No, Deathly Chill is condition based.
