so:
chilling nova preview
critical hits apply chill
9sec duration (3hits)
10sec icd

chilling nova live
critical hits apply chill
3sec duration
15sec icd

why the nerf…
this is such a wasted opportunity with perma chill you could take chilling force over decimate defenses in a reapershroud shroud1 build to to have even more life force sustain. you can reach 100% crit chance in a shroud1 build with death perception anyways so you dont need the crit chance out of shroud if u can sustain your shroud.

the other way around would be taking decimate defenses over death perception and taking dhuumfire as a dps increase but we need to wait til the next beta weekend to see how good shroud1 build are with reapers onslaught fixed.

long story short you dont need decimate defenses and death perception unless u take valk gear and one of the options is just way worse.

Chill is not working, and the worst part is that too many traits revolves around it and were almost all nerfed to achieve a “balanced” maximum chill uptime on golems.

Let us achieve the same amount of chill but at the cost of way less traits and skills ! So that we could get meaningful traits and effects besides chill chill chill. As if putting all eggs in same basket has ever been a good idea.

Balance team is a bunch of clowns, hurting the game to the full extent of their abilities.

Indeed. They overdid it with the chill nerfs, I know Robert said that they wanted to make it so it wasn’t so easy to have constant chill uptime, but the only way that can happen is if you go all in, even before hand. The movement changes need to be reverted (there is waaayyyy to much mobility in this game already, and not enough counter mobility), the nerf undone on chilling darkness, chilling victory needs to NOT have that icd, (Again, compare it to warrior forceful great sword, not much difference) and finally increas the scaling on deathly chill.

I know Robert said they wanted to create counter play to how much chill the reaper can put out, but there are already a ton of ways to counterplay or ways to compensate for chill, with nearly every class having a skill that can remove it specifically, or just condition removal in general, along with traits like Dogged March. Combined with the fact that GS has no leaps of its own and only a half kitten pull, we need chill to work as advertised. Right now it’s hardly even an inconvenience.

If a person wants to engage us without having taken the necessary precautions, then they should be punished for it.

Right now it is pretty garbage unless you go all in, and you are sacrificing a whole lot to be all in. Everybody has access to condi cleanses. I don’t understand such a large nerf before people have even had a chance to get their hands on it. This trait used to have the equivalent ICD of 3.33 seconds. Now it is 15 seconds? Couldn’t we have at least started with 5 seconds and then seen if the game explodes? Right now Chilling Nova has absolutely no discernible chill uptime effect. The only thing you get from it is the damage tick, and that is only about an extra 1000 or so, because of the radius and the fact that it procs immediately. I get one extra dmg tick and then it never comes into play for the rest of many fights.

What i hate most of all about the reduction of chill uptime is that it has been forcing me to use Executioner’s strike early just for the chill field, which is a HUGE bummer.

This may become less of an isssue with an on-hit chill sigil on top of my hydromancy, but it is still so sad. It took what looked like an incredibly fun trait to something I am ambivalent about, at best.

I’d reduce it to 10s first just to see how it goes. I think the preview was way too much, but this is also way too little. But that is what beta is for, Reaper this time around was under-performing, but there is a lot of feedback coming.

I don’t mean that 10s is necessarily the best final number, but I think it’d be a decent place to start. That gives it 22% chill uptime base (with high crit), 24% if they un-nerf Cold Shoulder, which can go up to 40%, and it has a nice AoE to it. I don’t think it could go too low because of that, though maybe as low as 8 would be fine.

Something that is interesting to note is that Hydromancy inflicts the chill first and then damages nearby enemies. This effect can also crit, allowing it to proc Chilling Nova. Since Reaper Shroud counts as weapon swap, you can swap in,proc Hydromancy which then, thanks to Death Perception benefits, reliably procs CN. Some quick tests before I went to bed put this at around 2.5k damage and 4s chill against the heavy target golems in HotM. This also procs Chilling Force/Victory once for every enemy around you.
It’s not much but it’s more than I expected.

Honestly, I’d prefer something like what they originally had. Maybe 2 every 10 seconds, as that would mean less time the opponent can be constantly chilled than if it was 3 every 15, as well as making it actually stronger than just running a sigil of ice (30% on hit instead of on crit on a 10 sec cd). I think 1 chill every 10 seconds is far too small, especially since it is such a short chill, and traits such as might on chill don’t actually find good opportunities to stack chill if the opponent isn’t being consistently chilled.
