Complementing off-hand for an Axe?

So I just started up a Necromancer, a Sylvari, if you’re that curious. And for some reason, I got the oddest desire to mainly use an Axe. One doesn’t question these kind of things, they just go with it.

That said, I’m curious as to which off-hand weapon would best compliment the skills of an Axe. Right now, I have a Focus, and I love the amount of Vulnerability I can put on someone, and the Chill power lets me circle-strafe so easy, but how’s a Horn’s skills or a Dagger’s skills work with an Axe?

And what would you recommend for an off-set? Scepter and Off? Double Dagger for melee craziness? Staff for support?

Thanks in advance.

Oh for the love of little green tomatoes…

Focus is my go-to for axe off-hand.

As for a second set, the easy answer is you should have both off-hands, dagger, and staff available. Swap them as needed.

I use horn because of my DS build. #5 on horn as well as #2 on axe provide a lot of life force.

I use dagger with axe. Too many conditions out there. You also get a big AoE with weakness.

I currently run with Axe/Warhorn and Dagger/Focus. Trying to build a DeathShroud build Taking the Dagger/Focus as “decent” defensive options with Heals, regen and Chill

I’d go with focus or dagger depending on the situation, with focus being the optimal setup (depending on your build of course). Warhorn would work ok with it if you need swiftness or an interrupt, but otherwise it works a whole lot better with dagger because of the shorter range. For your offset since axe is a power weapon, scepter might not be your best bet since it’s a condi weapon unless you’re making a hybrid build. Your only other options really are staff and dagger, or just run axe/focus and axe/dagger sets (keeping axe as mainhand on both sets). Axe is a pretty cool weapon despite everyone QQing over the auto attack on it (which honestly is not the axe’s main damage, it’s just a debuffer to prepare for the real damage which is #2).

focus is most solid

dagger helps with condition removal plus has blind/weakness, it’s not so optimal than focus

horn doesn’t have very good synergy with axe, horn #5 is basicly melee dps and interrupt doesn’t fit with kiting at range, which is what you’re supposed to be doing with axe.

I usually pair Focus or Dagger with Axe and pair Warhorn with a mainhand Dagger.

Focus or Dagger I find is the best ones paired with an Axe. I use Dagger mainly because there is a ton of conditions that fly around and with Staff alternative it means no matter what weapon im on I can easily get rid of those conditions without having to waste a utility.
