It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
Hello,
I apologize ahead of time if this topic has been discussed at length. I’ve been playing a Necro alt from time to time, and recently just revived him again. I’m looking for a condition necro build, but have no idea what gear/traits/utilities to even use to maximize conditions and condition damage. My main area of play is PvE and dungeons, with an occasional WvW. I understand I may need to switch gear sets to accomodate the environment, just have no idea where to begin.
Conditions are sub-par, and that’s putting it lightly, in PvE. Although they are by no means useless, they pale in comparison to power-based damage.
However, this is the build I use for WvW solo roaming:

Something to note; this is a very personalized build. Most prefer to use a staff instead of two scepters and by all means you can use a staff if you rather. Most also prefer to use Spectral Armor instead of Well Of Power but again this is preference and changing it will not drastically effect the build.
Scepter, Staff, offhand Dagger and Focus are all very good condition based weapons. Corrupt Boon is one of our best (although buggy) utilities and if you’re going anywhere solo in WvW you want some form of speed which comes with Spectral Walk. Dire armor helps to boost your survivability without reducing your damage too much by having everything else Rabid. Nightmare runes aren’t mandatory but having 95% duration is pretty nasty, especially for those who don’t have, or have used all of, their cleanses.
Avoid using axe, dagger mainhand, “Withering Precision”, “Toxic Landing”, “Close To Death” (as this only effects physical damage, not condition) and “Spiteful Marks.” I would also avoid using Signet Of Spite and Corrosive Poison Cloud, really any other utility will serve you better than these two. Signet Of Spite can nuke people with conditions but it’s an incredibly situational utility as well as it is extremely cheesy.
Very nice I think I am going to try that. Maybe play around with it a little. I like the Dire and Rabid armor combo. Thanks!
Feedback:
Went with a similar build that you suggested, modified a little bit for PvE, and I love it!!
I love melting groups of mobs with stacks of conditions and wells. So far with this condition build, I am having a far easier time in PvE than I was with my warrior at the same level and areas. Thanks!
So I’m looking at what runeset I should get. While Nightmare runes are at the top of my list, I was also thinking of Afflicted and Krait. My main weapons sets are: Scepter/dagger and Staff.
My utlities are: Here
I’ve entered in my traits based on my current level (64) thats why they aren’t all assigned.
So what are the thoughts of Afflicted and Krait runes? With this setup I find I’m doing lots of bleed. Can usually stack 12+ without doing much. Remember this is mainly PvE and dungeons (yes I know they are underrated, but I find it fun)
I like the new krait runes.
I just think you’re missing out on damage not running Staff, especially in PvP. You run Power/Vitality/Condition Damage and you get the best of both worlds stacking conditions with scepter/dagger and staff plus you get increases damage from staff abilities from additional power.
I am running scepter/dagger and staff, check out 5th post. Also I dont do pvp much if ever at all. However, any more input would be helpful, especially about combo fields. I can regularly drop dark and light fields, but not sure how useful they are.
