A common suggestion for buffing the rather underwhelming Well of Darkness has been to add a Projectile Block, much like the previous buff to Corrosive Poison Cloud.

- Both skills are a 240 radius 900 range unblockable aoe, that grant either a poison field or a dark field.
-CPC lasts for 8 seconds but hits every 2 seconds including on cast for a total of 5 strikes.
-WoD lasts for 5 seconds but hits every 1 second including on cast for a total of 6 hits (just tested it and it seems that it only inflicts blind 5 times).
-CPC inflicts 4 stacks of Poison for 2 seconds and 3 seconds of weakness every pulse.
-WoD inflicts 3s of blind every pulse (but as previously stated it only stacks up to 5 times).
-Being a corruption skill, CPC also inflicts 6s of weakness on yourself (and 2s of cripple if traited). It also then has the grand Projectile Block attached.

If you disregard the projectile block, both skills are fairly similar. CPC is obviously a choice for condition builds whereas WoD was more likely designed with power builds in mind (although in its current state, it gets very little use). WoD also has a kitten recharge time vs CPC’s 30s recharge time. I think in its current state, WoD could gain a projectile block without making it unbalanced. It would make the it a viable skill to bring but does not override CPC’s viability. Builds that would normally take CPC would still have a better advantage taking it over the buffed WoD but builds not normally wanting to take it (aka power builds without condi clear/transfer) would be better off taking WoD.

Please Anet make it happen!

In my rework, I suggest merging well of darkness and well of power, since both are defensive… and underwhelming.

Honestly, the issue of Well of darkness is just the cool down of the skill. I’d rather see Anet decrease the cool down to 25-30 second instead of wrecking their head to add some unneeded effect that could lead to imbalance. There is absolutely nothing that justify the actual prohibiting cool down.

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

Even with Chilling Darkness and Vampiric Rituals, WoD is weak. It is little more than a dark field.

Personally, I would change it to another field: fire, smoke, ethereal, poison, or lightning. Necromancer has plenty of dark fields and they honestly feel weak in today’s game.

Another option may be to totally rework the dark field and its combinations. Blindness, itself, is too weak of a condition and finishers Necromancer has access to are not needed (whirling with Digger) or not effective (whirling with Soul Spiral or leaping with Death’s Charge). Gravedigger has Nightfall and an extra blind leaping into a well is almost as pathetic as Soul Spiral’s non-healing leach while in shroud.

At least Necromancer has a few more finishers but Darkness fields do not have much benefit. The field needs rework as much as Well of Darkness.

It is an easy fix I know, but it seems Anet doesn’t want to put in much effort when it comes to balancing Necromancer.
