Corrupt Boon
Its still affected by the problematic random “obstructed” bug that projectiles get. Corrupt Boon actually fires a very fast moving invisible projectile, which requires a small 45 degree forward facing towards your opponent to fire off. Additionally, your target can actually juke this projectile mid sequence since it is not heat seeking. You won’t get any feed back from the skill (miss, dodged, obstructed) because the projectile does not report any data back to the client.
That sounds like a kitten way making a skill.

Actually you can land Corrupt Boon facing away from your opponent as well.
Still, sometimes it can miss without any apparent reason.

The initial casting you have to be facing towards your target though, or it goes on that dumb 5 second cool down.

I have been paying more attention to this since it has been brought up in a different thread before.
You can cast CB while running away from someone and it will work, without turning back when the casting animation is done. It seems to be similar to the Lich Form auto attack.
It’s a pretty darn good utility skill. I’ve been using it in my spvp build and have decided to keep it on my bar (mainly because I don’t like the Well alternative); nothing else seems like a viable replacement. At least for my build.
I’ve been doing rather well. But thus far there are two things that get me killed on my necro more than anything else:
1) CB randomly missing for no reason (or being dodged, which is fine)
and
2) Right click switching my target or clearing it all together when I try to pan the camera.
Would be nice if they fixed these two issues. Does anyone use anything else in a Condi/Fear build that I’m not aware of? I’m still pretty new to necro but it’s a little more fun than my Mesmer main I’ve been playing since Beta.

Use the option “Promote Skill Target”.
This way the target stays locked in when you turn away your camera.
Zealots will come saying that it’s not bad programming, it’s a feature that adds depth to the class.

I have that option checked and have for a while. Doesn’t help.

Nope. I actually noticed it doesn’t have a facing requirement and seems to miss a lot less often now. I’m happy with it.

I am completely sure it had a facing requirement historically.
I will test again today to verify. If it doesn’t then it may take back a spot on my bar that was vacated by epidemic.
EDIT: Tested, it does not require facing… Not sure that I can speak for the hit or miss rate, but I will use it some and see what I find out.

Just tested this too, and you’re right. No longer does it require forward facing. When did this change happen? This makes corrupt boon so much more reliable now. I hope this change is intended and not a bug that will get fixed later.
It changed this last patch and personally has saved my skin more than once. Assuming its formatted to respond like lich #1.
Haha wow that’s good to know. I’ve still been using it assuming it still required you to be looking directly at your target, on a level field, standing on one foot, avoiding blades of grass, etc.
Still gotta watch for grass lol.
Tried CB a bit this night in wvw and it didn’t work.
The target was in front of me (so there was LoS) and the skill never flipped boons on enemies.
Don’t know if i’m only just unlucky or there is something wrong in this skill. Anyone else got this problem?
WvW has some atrocious LoS issues. You could have literally had a pebble between you and it would have missed because it was “obstructed”.
General assumption is that all the “invisible projectile” skills shoot it at targets feet, so if there is any kind of elevation in the way it will more often then not hit floor and fail putting it on its full cd.

Its not just invisible proj. skills; I often have DS2 bug out because of this as well. Always better to learn from the sword mesmers and use your directional skills uphill from your target.
