I main a d/d ele, but the way I play and build, it really isn’t ideal for large scale fighting. My guild runs 5-10 and fights any zerg we can find, and my increasingly glass cannon nature is becoming impractical for that kind of combat, so I’ve been looking for something else to run. I’ve always mained support in past games so I was trying something along those lines, but I’m just not seeing the appeal of direct support. When I run staff on my ele, all I want to do is cc, but it’s all on long cooldowns.

So, can a necro play a kind of control tank with a bit of damage? This is just theorycrafting based on no actual experience, but I was thinking of something like Scepter/Focus with staff on switch, plague signet, epidemic, maybe signet of undeath, and plague for elite. Gear would be tankiness/con damage. Idea would be to basically just run around slowing as much as possible and peeling while also putting out a bit of damage.

Does this sound like a viable idea? It’d be 100% wvw combat.

Yes but not in a scepter/focus kind of way. D/D with staff necro and high vitality is the kind of tank you want to run. Try bringing well of darkness to give all those blind every 1 sec around you and switch to DS when you actually start getting hit. A necro has high base HP and if you put 30 into blood magic your hp should be through the roof. Spec for vita/power/toughness and keep dropping wells/popping in and out of DS and your gonna be quite hard to kill. Plague signet is broken btw and doesn’t draw any conditions just copies them. This also only works if your running with a team because just like any profession in gw2 you cant tank forever.
