I dont really know how its used now. but the older version of it was a clear channel skill, and was instant without a delay, and build up as you channel, for good damage / healing.

With the current graphics is hard to see if the skill is going off or not. And that delay is a killer.

If it was a faster cast with a compressed duration it would be a lot better. Now I mostly just use it for stealthed or mist formed enemies.

2.5s cast would make Dagger 2 fine, most likely. Its numbers are pretty good, just takes too long.

What about D1 target limit reduced back to 1, but 2 turned into a facing/cone based aoe channel? Reshuffling its focus back to 1 target while making the 2 survival when outnumbered?

Theres no reason to nerf the auto attack just to fix the 2 skill.

Like Bhawb said. 2 just needs a channel time reduction. Give it the same treatment ranger longbow got.

Aside from having a cooldown and a brief startup delay (like literally every other channeled skill in the game), it does function the same. It just has a less clear animation.

As for the channel delay, I’m pretty sure that’s just so the ability can be stopped before it actually does any damage. I can’t think of any weapon skill on any class that can’t be interrupted before dealing damage.

Yea the 2 skill needs work for sure. A cast time reduction would be fine, but it’s still a channeled skill on a duelist, assassin type weapon (high single target damage, 2 targets isn’t cleave). Making the life siphon an aoe wouldn’t fit the role of the weapon. It should just be a normal cast skill, or it needs to have a way higher reward (i.e. damage on par with auto). Channeled single target skills are really lackluster in this game because they are way to easy to interrupt, and you almost never get the full effect.

I agree. I don’t think the skill needs to be changed all that much either. Just a bit quicker cast time is all. Same damage same healing, just shorter cast.

I always thought it’d be cool if it was a 1 second cast unique DoT that you latch onto someone (kinda like the new Guardian DH f1) that siphoned health over time and couldn’t be removed. That’d be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. But unlike now it’d be a 1 shot thing so if you miss you miss.

The idea/reasoning behind 1s target reduction is based on it then being capable of getting tweaked for pure duel in pvp and PvE boss scaling, Cleave wont really be a problem with Reaper release.

The core of the part I disagreed with is that I don’t think we need to rebalance the Dagger autoattack in exchange for an updated Life Siphon.

Life Siphon is pretty okay right now, though I don’t think it’s particularly ‘awesome’. I think it being a cone attack like Drake’s Breath, but with life steal, would justify it being stronger than it is due to the skilled nature of its targeting, and would just be awesome in general. That said, I do agree that a little bit of a cast time reduction would put it in a good sweet spot if they didn’t feel like remaking the skill to be more awesome in general.

This skill is mainly useless in PvP, really. People run and dodge around you while you channel. Usually hits next to nothing. However, you can immob him with dagger 3 if you want to waste it on this rather sub-par skill.

The skill is arguably more useful in PvP than PvE because you can use it to catch Thieves and Mesmers in stealth to proc Fire/Air sigils while they’re invisible, identifying their location to you. That said, it still could use some work to be more generally useful.

Not true at all, you only need to face your target while the casting the skill (about 0.5 sec) but while you actually channel it you do not need to face them, hell you can even run away and still life siphon from a target up to 600 range behind you, basically los is a non issue. Also if you are channeling and your target is blocking or goes invulnerable you still get healed per pulls.

The main reason this skill is not all that good is its absurd cast and channel time, which combined are around 4 sec i think. If casting + channeling were shortened to say ~2.75 sec then it would be a amazing skill.

It hits no matter what direction they are facing. And no good player is wasting a dodge on dagger 2. It has limited uses, but they do exist.

I still find it very lackluster in PvP, which is the only gamemode I’d ever use it in. Takes too long and since I manly play zerker staying 600 range for that whole channel can be a death sentence. If I’m going to be 600 or less range I want to be able to use my auto attack since it’s so much better for damage and cleave.

Maybe I’d notice it being better if we had more bunkery/sustain builds.
