Q:

How is dagger damage at higher levels? Im currently 25 and with good equipment my daggers dont hit for much. I have no trouble killing mobs but it takes longer then most other classes.
Besides that, against champion mobs in events i usually always get a bad rating compared to my warrior that always gets gold.

Perfectly fine for me. Remember for damage on a single target you only want to use your first and second ability. All the others don’t do high damage and would take the time away you could be using on doing damage.

Honestly at level 73, main-hand dagger feels like the only usable option.

Plus you are a necromancer, you will always kill stuff slower than other classes. Necros have good AoE bleeds, but apart from that, the class is mostly about survivability, healing and support.

Dagger deals decent amounts of damage in reasonable amounts of time. It also generates life force well enough. What i do not like about it is how uninteresting it is. It’s autos need something more than just damage to make the playstyle a bit more engaging because as is your best bet is to fill your life force with autos then dump it on the enemy rinse-repeat. (for PvP i get the appeal of the immobilize but i don’t think dagger is a wise choice in it’s current incarnation.)

Don’t use daggers with a necro… you will get roflstomped.

axe/horn with staff, or scepter/dag with staff are the only combinations that are “decent”.

There is no viable dagger build in terms of traits and gear that makes actual sense either.

I don’t understand how anyone can say that axe is better than a dagger. Yes dagger does deal less dmg per hit, but the speed is incredible, axe attacks are super slow. Works great with any power build.

dagger u ahve to be up in there face but axe u dont have to be. i run scepter/dagger and axe/horn off for pve for the run boost and life force gain when needed.

Dagger can be good if you’re good with switching weapons. I like opening with my scepter and focus on one set to slow enemies down and do as much damage as possible before switching to a dagger and horn combo where I open up with a daze attack, summon my locus, and kite the hell out of enemies.

When I’m low on health, I switch back to scepter and focus combo, roll out of the way, slow them down with a cripple and a chill, heal, and start dealing bleeding damage again.

The dagger isn’t good if you’re going to use it alone, you’ll have to make use of all your other weapons too, but it can be very rewarding since it’s main attack generates life force.

@silverhope Well yes, dagger is a very short-range weapon, the problem is that axes range isn’t that huge either. It’s nearly impossible to kite high-level mobs with it since most of those have some kind of soft or hard-cc ability and the dmg difference between the axe and dagger is pretty big.

Just a minor note, if roaming around doing general PvE or PvP stuff with a dagger, the focus offhand as well as a skill like WoS (for pve) is a must if you are looking for high single target dmg. The regen from skill 4 is nice, but it also apply 9 stacks of vuln to whatever you are trying to kill. It makes a huge difference.

Daggers require a power/percision build to be worthwhile. The auto-attack does very good damage. With extremely mediocre gear in WvW (1900 power) I often crit on the 3rd attack for over 1500.

Melee necro is not easy to play but very rewarding when you figure it out.

I am only level 41, but I use dagger/dagger and either staff or specter/focus. but I am running a tank/support/healer build. with this build the daggers seem to kill the fastest and i don’t mind being close.

i have been thinking about switching up the offhand dagger tho.

You can look through some of the topics over at guru , they have discussed numerous times dagger/dagger builds for Spvp and Tpvp. I dont think I have ever seen a World Vrs dag mainhand build.

linky to guru forums : http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/74-necromancer/

hope it helps,
