Dark Path Failing
Lol never had this problem. Only time my dark path misses is because of obstruct, failed to target the enemy or they get out of range. You clearly have him targeted, so maybe lag?
My only guess is that it looks like you left DS right as it finished casting, so it interrupted it. But even that doesn’t make much sense since you can still see the hand being thrown.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

In my experience the client can sometimes lag slightly behind the server, so it’s possible your client was showing the skill having completed its casting and displaying the projectile going off whereas the server has you down as having left DS before it finished. It happens to me a lot while healing (client shows me as having completed the cast, my HP actually refills, then next thing I know I’m in downed state).
Hmm…. I guess I wish it was just more… normalized…
I have tried to reproduce this by hopping out of DS, immediately following Dark Path, and it seems to work, over and over again. After this failure, I might have 10 more casts before it fails again, in the exact same way.
I wish I had stayed in DS longer to rule that lag issue out, but frankly I have to stay in long enough to get the stupid cast off, that sitting in it longer waiting for it to land is just wasted cast time.
EDIT: I guess my point is, I should be able to reproduce this, but it could be relative to my lag or the server lag at the time of the cast, something I cannot control. I may sit down and do 100 casts of this and record how many failures I get, but I am certain I have had this happen while sitting in DS and waiting as well.
Also if you watch, my fear, and attacks are triggering immediately with no delay… so I just have a hard time believing lag is the issue. If the fear triggers immediately, so should the dark path.

You can leave DS after you have casted dark path with no problems. Just make sure the actual projectile has started firing off before you leave DS. Although ive managed to rush it and sometimes it works anyway and i teleport to my target or i do it slightly too fast and interrupt it completely.
It has to do with the game itself: It doesn’t use clientside “hit detection”, but checks it serverside. A similar issue exists in WoW as well with people having their spells interrupted, yet concomitantly execute due to the server not being able to register either effect for the clients quickly enough.
In laggy scenarios you can also dodge attacks on your screen and still get hit by them. This of course prevents people from hacking things client side, but it also makes things a hell of a lot laggier.
At least that’s my hypothesis… he was dodging, or doing something and it didn’t show on your client.

He was feared?
I get what people are saying, but watch the video.. it wasn’t a laggy situation. Things were happening in real-time.

One thing that might have happened and now that I think about it, this is much more likely: Dark path only has a 900 range.
This is from the gw2wiki:
" The projectile can hit from a longer range than indicated. However, if cast from longer range, it will not track and you will not fully teleport to the target. "
So if the server though he was at a farther distance than 900 and you attempted to cast the spell it might have failed in that manner.

Thats even more unlikely as hes practically kissing him.

Not really, he’s just barely within 900 range at 0:14 when he casts it. Of course that’s on his screen as well…..

Are you watching the same video as me? Hes well under 600 range when he casts it.

At 14 seconds im within about 400 distance of him…. I could hit him with axe at that distance.

He could have been hitting with an axe at the distance shown in the video, before and after the cast. I don’t think the range is an issue.
Edit: Axe hivemind.
