Dealing w/ Mesmer
The word on the street is: In the current meta you can’t win 1 on 1 versus Mesmer, unless he is terribad, or you have achieved absolute perfection with your class and timed all your skills correctly.
Necro unfortunately has his bun handled to him mostly vs any other class at the moment.
I guess I’m still a newb sPvP’er but the few times I won 1 on 1 vs Mesmer was when I got extremely lucky with placing my staff’s 5 and interrupting him in crucial moments.
Essentially 1v1 with Mesmer, you die. As a necro 1v1 with anyone, you die. Its just the current state of the game sadly.
The problems people are having with Mesmers are largely because they build their necromancers glass-cannon style, and Mesmers love to kill squishy casters. The key is to make sure you have around 27k hp, and a 1:1 ratio of vitality to toughness. The specifics of that are in another thread here. Once they have a hard time taking you down with illusion burst, it’s mostly just a matter of outplaying them, and timing your interrupts without getting distracted by the clones. I have killed Mesmers in sPvP all by myself, when they clearly knew what they were doing. It wasn’t easy, and I was sweating by the end of it, but they can be killed. It’s probably best to avoid dueling them 1v1, though.

This. Sadly in s-pvp we are one of the throwaway classes that aren’t that useful.
I managed to almost take down a guardian 1v1 in spvp an hour ago, then he used his elite skill and healed, then killed me with 80% HP.
It was thrilling “almost” killing one of the better classes in the game, the adrenaline rush was awesome. Then only disappointment came.
Get Toughness high and use a build that can deal with conditions…You can be a condition Necro or a Power Necro.
30 only in one of your DPS lines then put the rest in survivability! You don’t even need to go 30 in DPS!
Cempa, I remember you from SWTOR forums. Hah, same faces, same places.
Thanks for info guys.

Perhaps you’re server is very strong or something.
I play only sPvP on Darkhaven.
I’ve done pretty well 1v1 and come out on top often except against mesmers. I have a feeling that either I’m lucky or I’m playing total scrubs, like myself. I don’t consider myself competitive so I think I’m just ignorant/sheltered from the PvP pros and min/maxers.
I’ve not competed in any tournaments or anything though so I really know nothing in terms of balance. I’ve not played any other professions either. I’ve just been focusing on being as good as I can at my necro.
I primarily run a conversion/wells build (targetable wells, wells grant 3 prot when dropped, wells siphon life) using Staff, then either Scepter/Dagger or Scepter/Horn. I have 3 key aspects to killing a Mesmer (or at least not losing to them).
1. I run with a flesh golem, the first thing I do is get a charge in on them. The knockdown slows down their illusion projection and they usually have to decide if they’re going to burn the stupid chocobo move on me early to despawn my golem. I use this “charge in” time to stack some staff marks under him, as well as a reaper mark beneath myself.
2. With the marks out, I try to stick with the “real” mesmer and start stacking bleeds/poisons while they crap out their illusions.
3. Then I go apekitten, I drop Grasping Dead and Enfeebling Blood of scepter, then drop wells (Suffering, Corruption, Blood) and Poison Cloud so that all of the illusions are caught up in the AoE damage, and flip into Death Shroud and use Life Transfer to aoe down the rest of their health.
At that point the illusions are almost always smoked and I can get up on the Mesmer to finish them off, or they burn some cooldowns and run away.
The trick with them is patience, and aoe – Line of Sight also helps if you have some terrain to force their illusions to come around the corner to help group them up for the burn down.
